The Haryana Government has given about Rs 64.50 crore as “Shagun” to
25,496 girls under the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Viwah Shagun Yojna during
the year 2012. Also, the government has given Rs 32.50 lakh as incentive
to 65 couples opting for inter-caste marriage.
While
stating this here today, an official spokesman said that under Indira Gandhi
Priyadarshini Viwah Shagun Yojna, girls belonging to Below Poverty Line
Scheduled Castes families and daughters of widows and widows themselves
get financial assistance for marriage. Under this scheme, a grant of Rs. 31,000
is being given to persons belonging to Scheduled Castes, Denotified Tribes and
Tapriwas Jatis and also widows of all the sections of society living below
poverty line and Rs. 11,000 is being given to the persons of other sections of
the society living below the poverty line.
He
said that to encourage the Panchayat for their outstanding work in the field of
welfare of members belonging to Scheduled Castes, a grant of Rs. 50,000 is
being given as incentive. Under this scheme, Rs. 31.50 lakh have been given to
63 panchayats during the year 2012.
He
said that under the scheme Monetary Relief to Victims of Atrocities, for
implementation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act, 1989, financial assistance is provided to compensate them .
The relief being given to them has been enhanced from Rs. 15000- Rs 20,000 to
Rs 40,000- Rs 50,000 with effect from December 23, 2011. Under this
scheme Rs. 76.74 lakh have been given to 136 victims from January to December,
2012.
He
said that the State Government has not only taken measures for social and
economic development of people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward
Classes but has also implemented various welfare schemes for the academic
development. He said that these schemes include Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar
Yojna, Annusuchit Jati Chhattra Uchch Shiksha Protsahan Yojna and Post Matric
Scholarship for students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. He
said that from January to December 2012, the State Government has benefitted
over 1,19,429 students spent a total amount of Rs 109.76 crore on 1.19 lakh
students under these schemes.
He
said that the State Government also provides financial assistance for
higher competitive entrance examinations to candidates belonging to Scheduled
Castes and Backward Classes through private institutions. Under this scheme
over Rs. 2.44 crore have been given to 5029 aspirants during the year 2012.
