CHANDIGARH, AUG 8
The Haryana Government has nominated three children of the State
for National Child Award for Exceptional Achievements.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of State Level
Screening Committee held under the Chairpersonship of Women and Child
Development Minister, Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal here today.
Those nominated for National Award included Yash Mittal, a resident of
Bhiwani for his outstanding achievements in the field of education,
Harman Singh, a resident of Panipat for her outstanding achievements in
the field of cultural activities and modeling and Navdeep, a resident of
village Buwana Laku in district Panipat, who in spite of being
differently abled stood second in 100 meter race and won a gold medal in
200 meter race in Para-athletic National Championship.
Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal said that in all there would be a Gold Medal and 35
Silver Medals. The recipient of a Gold Medal will also get Rs 20,000 in
cash, a citation and a certificate. In case of recipients of Silver
Medals, each of them would get Rs 10,000 in cash, a citation and a
certificate.
She
said that Government of India has instituted these awards to give
recognition to the children with exceptional abilities and those who
have achieved outstanding status in various fields including academic,
arts, culture and sports. She said that children falling between the age
group of four and 15 years were eligible for these awards and they
should not be above 15 years of age as on July 31, 2012.
