“The status
of women could be improved by women themselves and nobody else”, this was
stated by Geeta Bhukkal, Education Minister, Haryana at a session organized by
PHD Chamber and BIMTECH on Women Empowerment: Reaching New Horizons here today.
“The status of women would improve only if they educate themselves and grab
every opportunity to become stronger and more powerful than before”.
Steps should
be taken to promote equality of treatment and full integration of woman in the
total development effort of the country. The main stress should be on equal
work and elimination of discrimination in employment, emphasized Bhukkal.
Dalip Sharma, Regional
Director, PHD Chamber said that “women is the integral part of the society
and no society could develop without the women being given equal rights and
opportunities to excel”.
Mr Alok Bhardwaj, Associate Professor, BIMTECH shared the International scenario and spoke about his book on women
empowerment. He also gave examples of various successful women who faced
difficulties and fought battles to rise. Ms Shylaja Iyengar, Assoc. Professor, BIMTECH, G. Noida moderated the session
and saidthat “empowerment essentially
means that women have the power or capacity to regulate their day to day lives
in the social, political and economic terms – a power which enables them to
move them from the periphery to the centre stage”.
Ms Satinder Sachdeva, Prof, PEC University
of Technology summed up the
Session and said that change of mind sets
is important to bring change and bring empowerment in its true sense. She also
said that Internal empowerment is as important and essential as external
empowerment.
Also present in the session was Ms Sudha Sharma, IRS, (Retd), Director
Investigations who encouraged the students with her motivating remarks besides
women employees of various organizations of the city, and young female
students.
