CHANDIGARH, NOV 7
A new chapter in developing Haryana as an education hub of international
stature was added today as the Union Agriculture Minister Mr Sharad Pawar
inaugurated the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and
Management(NIFTEM), a Deemed University, in Kundli on Delhi- Haryana
border in presence of Haryana Chief Minister Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda and many
other Union Ministers.
It may be recalled that apart from this NIFTEM, a number of national level
educational institutions like Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Central
University, extension campus of Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), All India
Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS)-II, National Defence University, Indian
Institute of Information Technology(IIIT), National Institute of Design(NID),
National Automotive Testing and Research and Development Infrastructure Project
(NATRIP), and Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs at Manesar, Footwear Design
and Development Institute (FDDI) at Rohtak and Central Institute of Plastic and
Engineering Technology at Murthal are being set up across the State with the
support of Central Government. This shows that the last seven years have
witnessed tremendous development in the State.
The NIFTEM has been conceived by the Central Government as
an international Center of Excellence in the field of Food Sciences and Food
Technology.
The NIFTEM will grow into an apex world class Institute to
promote cooperation and networking among existing institutions both within the
country and international bodies. The institute will offer high quality
educational, research and management programme specific to the food industry, provide
referral advice on food standards, disseminate knowledge on the food sector and
provide business incubation facility. It will undertake not only world-class
food technologies to undertake research and development in frontier areas
but also develop new products, processes, technologies and machineries, set
food standards and protocol testing.
