CHANDIGARH, NOV 28
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today assured all
help of the State Government to Afghanistan in the field of
agriculture development.
The
Chief Minister was interacting with a delegation from Afghanistan,
which called on him in New Delhi today.The delegation included Deputy
Minister(Policy) Dr Farid Mamundzay, DG, HR Mr Azizullah Qazikhail,
Governor Helmand Mr Mohammad Naem Baloch, Governor Saripul Mr Abdul
Jabar Haqbeen, Chief Technical Advisor Mr Christopher Carter
and Capacity Development Specialist Ms Sofia Dahiya, from Government
of Afghanistan.
The
delegation has already visited Ch. Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture
University, Hisar. The leader of the delegation Dr Farid Mamundzay said
that Haryana is an advanced state in the field of agriculture and
Afghanistan would like to benefit from the experience of Haryana.
Mr
Hooda said that Haryana is the second largest contributor of foodgrains
to the Central Pool. In wheat productivity, Haryana is number one in
the country. In rice production also, Haryana is ahead of many states.
Haryana has 70 per cent share in the export of Basmati Rice from India.
Mr
Hooda asked about the mode of irrigation in Afghanistan. He was
informed that mainly irrigation is through canal water. Mr Hooda said
that Haryana also has irrigation through canal water from Bhakhra Dam
and Yamuna River, but elmand
there are tube-wells also and ground water is also used for irrigation purposes.
The members of the delegation thanked Mr Hooda for the cooperation and said that they would come up with concrete proposals.
