Haryana has
bagged the ‘Krishi Karman Award’ for Best Performing State in wheat category
for the year 2011-12. It is for the consecutive second year that Haryana
has been chosen for this Award.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda received the ‘Krishi Karman Award’
for the State from the President of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, at an Award
Ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today.
The award
consists of Rs one crore in cash, a trophy and citation. Haryana has been given
this award for highest wheat production of 130.69 lakh tonnes with productivity
of 5182 Kg. per hectare during 2011-12. During Last year in 2010-11 also,
Haryana had got Krishi Karman Award with highest production of 116.30 lakh
tonnes and productivity of 4624 kg. per hectare.
Two farmers of
Haryana have also been given award of Rs one lakh each alongwith citation for
highest production of wheat per hectare. Mr Ram Kumar of Sisai Bolan village of
Hisar district produced 7700 kg. wheat per hectare, which is the highest ever.
The other such farmer is a woman namely Anita from Pasina Khurd village of
Panipat district, who produced 6320 kg wheat per hectare.
Later while
talking to media persons, Mr Hooda said that he is happy that our efforts have
been acknowledged and the State has been honoured with Krishi Karman Award.
Haryana had been the second largest contributor of foodgrains to the Central
Pool with a contribution of 86.65 lakh tonnes of wheat during 2011-12. In reply
to a question by media persons, Mr Hooda said that although the Agriculture
Policy of State Government has been pro-farmer and all help has been provided
to the farmers in the form of better seeds, fertilizers, irrigation facilities
and power availability, yet the credit for the highest productivity goes to the
hard work of the farmers. “I salute them and congratulate them”, he added.
When asked about
the increase in minimum support price for wheat, Mr Hooda said that with
the bonus of Rs. 65 per quintal, the MSP of wheat announced by the Government
of India has come to Rs.1350 per quintal, but this is also not adequate. It is
hoped that higher MSP will be fixed next time.

Mr Chhatar Singh Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mr Roshan Lal, Principal
Resident Commissioner, Haryana, Mr P.K. Mahapatra and Director General,Agriculture,
Mr A.K. Singh were also present on this occasion.
