Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that he would make all possible
efforts to get wrestling included in Olympics to be held in
the year 2020 and would also strive to maintain it in the Olympics. He said
that race and wrestling were among the initial games of the Olympics. Wrestling
is part of the 2016 Olympics to be held at Rio D Janeiro, Brazil and he
would take steps to ensure that it remains a part of the future Olympics, he
added.
Mr.
Hooda was speaking at a function organized to celebrate the birth anniversary of
Sir Chhotu Ram by the Sir Chhotu Ram Trust at Chhotu Ram
Dharamshala in Rohtak today.
Paying
rich tributes to Ch. Chhotu Ram and urging the people to follow the path
kindled by him, Mr. Hooda said that he was a great social crusader who played a
vital role to ameliorate the lot of the labourers and the poor.
Expressing
his views on problems related to farmers, Mr. Hooda said that the working group
of Chief Ministers under his chairmanship has recommended to the Central Government
to decide the minimum support price by adding 50 per cent profit in cost
for making farming profitable and with the support of the people, he
would ensure that farmers get this right. Also, the working group has
recommended to provide subsidy on manure directly to farmers instead of mill
owners and in this regard UPA Government has taken an initiative. He said that
the suggestion of four per cent interest rate for farmers made by the working
group has already been implemented by the Central Government. He said that the
present Government has increased the minimum support price of wheat by
more than Rs 600 whereas previous NDA Government had only increased it by Rs
65. “I am not satisfied with this increase”, Mr. Hooda added.
Discussing
the farmer friendly decisions taken by the present State Government, Mr. Hooda
said that the State Government had waived off the loans amounting to Rs 445
crore of 3.92 lakh farmers. After this, the rate of interest of cooperative
banks was reduced to four per cent for those farmers who paid their loans on
time. Also, stamp duty on loan was abolished. For loan to buy tractor,
the limit of land was reduced to one acre and various black laws concerning
farmers were abolished. Under these laws farmers who failed to pay loan of Rs
5000 were sent to jail and they were charged for providing food to them in
jail.
Speaking
on the occasion Chairman, Sir Chhotu Ram Trust, Mr. Birender Singh said that we
need to change our thinking and to do away with our ego.
MLA
from Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Kamal Patel described Chhotu Ram as real son of
motherland and an inspiration for all. He said that nation becomes strong if
farmers of a nation are strong and this was thinking of Ch. Chhotu Ram.
