With average milk
procurement in Haryana during the current financial year touching the mark of 3.64
lakh litres per day, the Haryana Dairy
Development Cooperative Federation has doubled the milk handling capacity of
its five milk plants from 4.70 lakh litres
per day to 8.80 lakh litres per day during the year 2012-13.

2011-12, the Federation had recorded sales turnover of Rs 940 crore
and net profit was Rs 2.76 lakh. The tentative profit during the current
financial year would be Rs six crore, he added.
He said that the State Government has decided to set up
another Milk Plant at Ujhana village in district Kaithal
where a milk chilling centre is already in operation. The other milk plants are
located at Jind, Ambala, Ballabgarh, Rohtak, Sirsa. He said that while the milk
plants of Rohtak, Ballabgarh ,Ambala and Jind have obtained ISO-9002 and
IS-15000 certificates, the remaining plants would also obtain ISO-9002 shortly.
Each Plant has taken steps to implement Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Points.
He said that there was
also a plan to provide Automatic Milk Collection Units and Milko Testers to all the societies in the next five
years. This will help in maintaining
good quality of milk. Similarly Bulk
Milk Coolers will be provided to a
Milk Producer Society, who forms a cluster of 10 to 15 villages.Milk weight and Fat is instantly being
measured in a transparent manner in
Automatic Milk Collection Units. Milk is also being checked for any adulteration with milk testing kits approved
by National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal.
To strengthen
milk marketing, so far 354 milk booths and milk bars have been set up in
different towns in the State.
Mr Sangwan said that main
objective of the Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation is to promote economic interest of milk producers of
Haryana State, especially those belonging
to economically weaker sections. Therefore, its activities included purchase of
milk and processing it into milk
products and marketing by itself and through milk unions. It also undertakes allied activities as are conductive for the promotion of dairy industry such as improvement
of milch cattle and promotion of milk
production. Also, there exists a three tier system which includes milk
cooperative societies at village level, milk unions at district level and State
dairy federation at State level.
As part of stringent quality measures, milk required
for processing VITA products is procured from Dairy Cooperative Societies only.
It is ensured that the milk is transported to chilling centres and plants in
clean and sterilized milk cans as quickly as possible. All quality measures as
per Standard of Bureau of Indian Standards or Agmark are being applied
before the products are marketed. Well-equipped laboratories are functioning in
the chilling centres and milk plants to maintain ideal quality standards. VITA
is the endorsement of quality, a commendation the Federation is Proud of, he
added.
He said that an insurance scheme has been launched for the
benefit of milk producer members.
Under this scheme, a committed member has
been insured for Rs.one lakh for accidental death by merely paying Rs 10. About 26,000 persons have been
insured under the scheme.
