A Mega Mock-up Drill on preparedness to
launch rescue and relief operation in case of an earthquake was organized
today at 15 locations in Panchkula under the aegis of National Disaster
Management Authority (NDMA).
The monitoring of
the mock drill was done at State Emergency Operation Centre
situated at Mini-secretariat Sector-17, Chandigarh under the chairmanship of
Secretary Revenue Mr. Vijayendra Kumar.
Also,
in a meeting held in this connection, it was informed that under
Mw8 Mandi concept, mega mock-up drill was organized at different public places
like bus stands, markets, colleges, schools, administrative offices and railway
stations. Such exercise is essential to test the disaster management skills of
concerned personnel and to create awareness among people.It was informed that
today the drill was conducted in the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh,
Punjab and Union Territory Chandigarh.
The mock
drill centres at Panchkula were set up at Mini Secretariat Sector-1,
Government College for Girls Sector-14, Mata Mansa Devi Temple, Haryana
State Agricultural Marketing Board, Sector-6, Dhawan Hospital Sector-7,
Civil Hospital Sector-6, Sector-7 market, Bharat Electronics Limited Industrial
Area-II, Government College Sector-1, Jeevan Chaya Housing Society Sector-20,
Saket Hospital Sector-1, Alchemist Hospital Sector-21, Amartex Industrial Area
Sector-1 and Nada Sahib Gurudwara. Members of National Disaster Reaction Force
and NDMA have significantly contributed in the drill.
Officers of Police department, Civil Defense, Power, NIC, Health, Urban Local
Bodies, Public Works Department (Building and Roads), Public Health Engineering
and Revenue Departments participated in the meeting.
