Sex ratio in Haryana is 850 females per 1000 males

The sex ratio in Haryana has improved to 850 females  per 1000 males by December, 2012 as against 830 females per 1000 males as per the census 2011.This improvement in sex ratio is the result of the innovative schemes being implemented by the State Government.

         This was disclosed by  Haryana Health Minister Rao Narender Singh in a Panchayti Raj Sammelan organized under the aegis of National Rural Health Mission by Haryana Health Department in Panchkula today.

He said that this programme has been organized for the first time in the state as per the directions of Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda and very soon such programme would be organized in district Mahendergarh also.

          He urged the representatives present in the Sammelan to share the experiences of today’s Sammelan with the common people and provide all the necessary information about various schemes and programmes being implemented by the health department. He said that under the leadership of Mr Hooda, four new medical colleges are being set up in the state. This would not only meet the need of more number of doctors but would also provide better medical education to the youth of the state.

          He said that UPA government has included Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram of Haryana government in its leading programmes and it was launched by UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi in district Mewat. He recalled that  this programme of Haryana was widely appreciated  in a programme organized on child mortality rate at Tamil Nadu between February 7 and 9. He said that  such programmes would yield better results with the participation of Panchayati Raj Institutions.

          Rao Narender Singh said that  Haryana is the first state of the country where free medicines are being provided to the patients in government hospitals and economical surgery packages  are also being given to the poor. Under 102 referral vehicle facility, ambulance facility is being provided to the poor at their doorstep. A network of about 350 such ambulances is operational in the whole state. While referring to declining sex ratio in the state, he said that Panchayati Raj Institutions could play a positive role in this direction. Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act  has been  implemented strictly in the state.

          The Health Minister said that healthy and prosperous Haryana  is the dream of Mr Hooda. Before the tenure of Mr Hooda, the budget of the health department was Rs 300 crore which has now been increased to Rs 1600 crore. It is only the result of farsightedness of Mr Hooda that first women medical college of the country after independence has been set up at Khanpur Kalan in district Sonepat.

          Raising the slogan of ‘Gyan Hamara, Swasthya Tumhara, Isse Ho, Har Angan Khushiyara’, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Mr Ram Kishan Fouji said that  to improve upon the sex ratio there is a need to change thinking of the people and for this public representatives elected by the people could play a significant role.

           MLA Panchkula Mr D. K. Bansal, Chairperson Panchkula Zila Parishad Mr Rajesh Kona, Principal Secretary, Health Department, Mrs Navraj Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Panchkula, Mrs Ashima Brar and Director General, Health, Dr Narender Arora also spoke on the occasion.

          On this occasion, Health Minister released three books related to various schemes of Health Department and also honoured the ASHA workers who have made outstanding contribution in implementing various schemes of the health Department with cash prizes. Asha Worker of Barwala, Mrs Suman was given away a cash award of Rs 4500 as first prize, Asha Worker of Manaktabra, Mrs Mamta and Asha Worker of Budhanpur, Mrs Manju were given cash prizes  of Rs 4000 and Rs 3000 as second and third prizes respectively. Also other Asha Workers who have made significant contributions were also honoured with cash prizes of Rs 1500 each.
