Dhillon reviews progress of Rapid Metro Network

Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Mr S.S.Dhillon today came to Gurgaon to review the progress of laying of Rapid Metro Network here. He had a meeting with the officers of district administration and Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited. The first phase of Rapid Metro Rail is likely to be inaugurated on October 2.
      Mr Dhillon said that this is country’s first Metro rail system developed on PPP mode at cost of about Rs. 1100 crore . The first phase of this Rapid Metro is of 5.1  kilometer length with six stations namely DLF phase-II, Belvedere Towers, Gateway Towers,
Moulsari Avenue,DLF Phase-III and Sikanderpur. Major part of this is of single track. The interchange station is at Sikanderpur, where Rapid Metro connects Delhi Metro system via a skywalk. This will provide seamless connectivity to Delhi Metro, thereby connecting DLF cyber city to Delhi.
      Managing Director of Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited Sanjeev Rai apprised Mr Dhillon that the construction of first phase of Rapid Metro has been completed. He said that work on second phase from Sikanderpur up to Sector 55-56 of Gurgaon has also commenced.
 He said that in the first phase the Rapid Metro will have three coaches with a capacity of 800 passengers. According to Mr Rai the Rapid Metro will have common ticketing system with Delhi Metro which means that the tokens and smart cards of Delhi Metro will work on Rapid Metro system also.
This will ensure commuter  convenience as there will be no requirement of purchasing multiple tickets. He said that a total of five trains will deployed first phase and these trains are fitted with Air Conditioning to cope with high temperature experience during summers. CCTV Cameras have been installed. He said that with the advent of Rapid Metro, Commuters will get relief from traffic woes, connecting them to the NH-8, Gurgaon and Delhi.
