Organic farming of vegetables in Haryana

By Haryananewswire
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 2
Different varieties of vegetables would be cultivated through organic farming over an area of four acres at cost of Rs. 1.65 crore at Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Gharaunda, district Karnal to promote cultivation of vegetables through organic farming among farmers.
This was disclosed during the visit of Ambassador of Israel to Nepal Mr. Hanan Goder to the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Gharaunda today.
Mr. Goder was apprised that this Indo-Israel collaborated project has been set up at a cost of Rs. six crore under National Horticulture Mission in the year 2011. During this short span, this centre has generated revenue of about Rs. three crore. This centre had provided about 50 lakh high variety, pest-free and best quality vegetables saplings at 50 per cent subsidized rates to farmers of the state which includes coloured Capsicum, Cheery Tomato, Cucumber, off-season melon, green chili, brinjal etc.
Highly impressed with the techniques being used in the Centre, Mr. Goder said that soon 21 progressive farmers of Nepal would visit this Centre for training so that they could disseminate the information gathered at the Centre to other farmers of Nepal thus increasing commercial farming in that country.
He said that the farmer in Nepal does not have big farms like Indian farmers and they do not get as much subsidy as Indian farmers by the Government. Now, Nepal government has taken a step for the betterment of farmers and facilities would be provided to farmers on the pattern of Centre of Excellence for vegetables at Gharaunda to increase their income.
