As many as
122 students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM),Rohtak
were awarded diplomas at its second annual convocation held today,
marking the graduation of the second batch of the flagship 2-yr full time Post
Graduate Programme in Management.
The Chief Guest of the convocation, Mr. Anil Agarwal, Founder and Executive
Chairman, Vedanta Group, congratulated the faculty and students of
the IIM on achieving rapid progress in a short span of time. He also
gave jewels of advice to the young managers from his own life experiences
such as to be bold, to have trust in people, to look beyond the obvious, to
have confidence in your abilities, to find new horizons, to be passionate, to
empower others and to give back to the society. He also awarded the Gold Medals
instituted for Best Scholastic Performance and Best All Round Performance to
Mr. Dhiren Achtani and Mr. Rajat Gupta respectively of the outgoing batch and
lauded the batch for their multifarious achievements.
Earlier, the
convocation was declared open by Mr. Ravi Kant, Chairman, Board of Governors of
the IIM-R, who is also Vice-Chairman, Tata Motors.
While speaking on
the occasion, Mr. Ravi Kant said that the IIM was fast developing into
one of the finest management institutes in the country, producing students who
would be assets to their organizations. He also urged graduating students to
take risks in the early stages of their career and not shy away from taking the
entrepreneurial opportunities that exist in the emerging economy like ours.

Rameshan, Director of the IIM welcomed the dignitaries and parents
and released the convocation report. Prof Rameshan said that
the Institute has started the Management Development Programmes and also
launched a doctoral programme, Fellow Programme in Management. He said that it
was IIM’s aspiration to develop its students as true citizens embodying
impeccable professional integrity and unparalleled social commitment as well as
managers with an excellent sense of purpose with respect to their corporate
mission.
The
outgoing batch contributed significantly to institution building
and social development by unique initiatives like Swabhav - which meets
educational expenses of girl children of local auto-rickshaw drivers by a
self-sustaining model and also by having a very active Social Development
Projects Cell, reflecting IIM’s commitment to its stated mission of
moulding students as leaders with unparalleled social commitment. The
batch also brought laurels to the institution by winning several
B-school competitions at the national level such as Intellivestor at IIM
Calcutta, Street Smart at IIM Bangalore, Futsal - Varchasva at IIM Lucknow,
Kalpana at IIM Rohtak, Equinox at IIM Raipur, Manthan at IIT Bombay, Vincenza
at MDI Gurgaon, Big 10 at IMT Ghaziabad, Ikshaa Quiz at ISB Mohali, Kurukshetra
at XIM Bhubaneswar, etc. They also played an active role in The Leadership
Journey - a strategic directional workshop to chart a course for the future
strategy and vision of IIM-R, held in December 2012.
It was informed
that during this year over 65 recruiters have participated in the final
placements process at IIM, Rohtak. Major recruiters include such well-known
brands as Maruti Suzuki, ICICI, HSBC, Cognizant, Tata Power, Mother Dairy, TATA
AIA, KPMG, Berger Paints, LG, Hero MotoCorp, Yes Bank, Evalueserve, Tata Elxi,
Godrej Agrovet, Bata, TCS, Relaxo.
