Karnal sugar mill produces 2.03 quintals of sugar

 While the Haryana Government has encouraged transparency by implementing manual weighing of sugarcane at co-operative sugar mill, Karnal, the mill has left behind all the sugar mills in the State this year also by producing over 2.03 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 21.31 lakh quintals of sugarcane. During this year, the mill has registered a recovery of 11.17 per cent whereas its average recovery is 9.72 per cent.
       While giving this information today, an official spokesman said that the sugar mill, Karnal is 12 times recipient of honours at national level for its outstanding performance. He said that it was the only sugar mill where the State Government had decided to conduct manual weighing of sugarcane for the convenience of  farmers.
 He said that in the State, 10 sugar mills were being run through Cooperatives. These included those at Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat, Shahbad, Jind, Palwal, Meham, Kaithal, Gohana and Karnal and a sugar mills was being run through HAFED at Assandh in district Karnal. While, as per the official figures, these sugar mills registered a recovery of 10 to 11 per cent this year, the Karnal Sugar Mill had already registered recovery of 11.17 per cent . However, HAFED sugar mill  has achieved a recovery of 11.05 per cent and earlier also the mill had achieved distinction at national level.
       The spokesman said that efforts were being made by the mill to serve the farmers in a better way. The mills have also made efforts to increase the area under sugarcane cultivation. He said that the mill has a scheme of Rs 2.85 crore for development of sugarcane out of which Rs. 85 lakh would be given to the farmers as subsidy. He said that a Tissue Culture Lab has been set up in the mill to facilitate the farmers through which  the farmers were given quality seeds on subsidized rates. Apart from this the mill was also providing subsidy to the farmers on pesticides.
He said that the area under sugarcane cultivation has increased to 21,000 acre from 18,000 acre last year. About  2.61 lakh quintals of  sugar was produced by the mill by crushing 28.87 lakh quintal of sugarcane last year. For this season a target has been fixed to produce three lakh quintals of  sugar by crushing  about 30 lakh quintals of sugarcane, he added.
The Spokesman said that the sowing of sugarcane in about 500 acres was done through a new technique namely HTP. Under this technique, five to six quintals of seed was used per acre as against 35 quintals through normal technique. Thus, the farmers save  upto Rs. 5000 per acre by using this new technique, he further added.
