Haryana
Health Department has decided to set up a Curing Clubfoot Cell in General
Hospital, Panchkula to treat those suffering from this disorder free of cost.
While this Cell would be functional during next financial year, the decision to
set up similar Cells at Divisional level is under consideration.
This was revealed at a one-day seminar on Curing Clubfoot organized under the
chairmanship of Director General Health Services, Dr N.K. Arora at State
Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Panchkula today. The seminar was
attended by Orthopaedic Surgeons and Deputy Civil Surgeons.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Arora stressed the need to generate
awareness about Clubfoot, especially in rural areas because there were people
who did not know that there existed a treatment for it and for lack of knowledge,
they spend their whole life with this problem.
He said that those suffering
from Clubfoot should be identified in all districts and referred to the
appropriate quarters for their treatment. He said that even at the time of
birth, they should indentify those infants who suffer from this health problem.
Prof. P.N.Gupta of Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh and
Prof. Nirmal Raj of PGIMER, Chandigarh apprised the delegates about
Ponseti method that corrects congenital clubfoot. A practical
session on this method was also organized.
Principal, State Health and Family welfare Training Centre, Panchkula, Dr Usha
Gupta also spoke on the occasion.
