CHANDIGARH, APRIL 10
The
Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced a
bonanza of incentives for construction workers and said that financial
help at a rate of per day minimum wage for 30 days would be provided to those
who are unable to rejoin work due to accident or some serious illness.
A
decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Haryana Building and Other
Construction Workers Welfare Board held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Hooda
here today.
Mr.
Hooda said that this financial assistance would be given under the Medical
Assistance to the Beneficiaries Scheme to the beneficiaries who are
hospitalized in a Government hospital for five or more days. At present, Rs 215
and Rs 200 are payable as minimum wages to skilled and unskilled workers
respectively. Earlier, the financial assistance was Rs 200 for the first five
days and Rs 20 for each remaining day, subject to a maximum of Rs 1000.
The
Chief Minister also decided to enhance the financial assistance being provided
under the Kanyadaan Scheme to such workers on the marriage of their two
daughters from Rs 21,000 to Rs 31,000.
The
financial aid provided to the dependents of a deceased beneficiary was also
increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs one lakh and if the death is due to
accident during the course of employment, the dependents of the deceased would
now get Rs 1.5 lakh instead of Rs 1.25 lakh earlier. Also, the proposal to give
a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the dependents of unregistered worker in
case of his death due to accident during the course of employment was
approved.
It
was also decided that the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers
Welfare Board will reimburse upto Rs 3000 on the purchase of bicycle by the
construction workers. This facility will be provided once in three years to the
beneficiaries who would be member for at least one year. Apart from
this, the Board will provide in a year a pair of footwear of not more than Rs
250 and two pairs of saris or suit of maximum cost of Rs 1000 to the women
construction workers. Similarly, the Board would also provide rain coat or
umbrella once in a year at a cost of not more than Rs 250 to its
registered construction labourers.
Minister
of State for Labour and Employment, Pt. Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, Additional
Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister, Dr. K.K. Khandelwal and Mr. Shiv Raman
Gaur, Additional Chief Secretary, Labour and Employment, Mr. Praveen Kumar
Gupta, Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Principal Secretary,
Health, Mrs. Navraj Sandhu, Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department,
Mr. P. Raghavendra Rao, Principal Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment,
Mr. R.R. Jowel, Labour Commissioner, Mr. Arun Kumar and other senior officers
of the State Government were also present in the meeting.
