A portrait of well known freedom fighter Lala
Kedarnath Saigal was installed in the gallery of freedom fighters
in Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
Lala
Kedarnath Saigal was born in October 1898 at Lahore and breathed his last on
February 25, 1963. His son, Mr. Ashok Sehgal, who was present on the occasion
said that his father had played a vital role in fight against against the
British, especially in Lahore and Meerut. Apart from this, Lala ji had
actively participated in Quit India Movement and Non-Cooperation Movement of
Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and for this several times he was sent behind
bars. While being in jail, Lala ji was once elected as a Member of the Lahore
Assembly. During his entire life, Lala Kedarnath Saigal wore black
clothes as a mark of protest against the British.
It may be
recalled that on the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda and
Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Mr. Kuldeep Sharma, a gallery of portraits of
freedom fighters hailing from Haryana was set up in the premises of Haryana
Vidhan Sabha so as to commemorate their memory and inspire the people with
their significant contribution in freedom struggle of the country.
Those present on this occasion included family members of Lala Kedarnath Saigal
and officers of Vidhan Sabha Secretariat.
