CHANDIGARH, APRIL 3
Two M.Tech. (Biotechnology) students of University
Institute of Engineering Technology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra namely
Mr. Sanjeev Bhardwaj and Ms Neha Sharma, have bagged third prize at
National level Student Research Convention ‘Anveshan’ which was recently
organized by Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and All India University
Association (AIU) between March 20 and 22.
While stating this today, a spokesperson of the
university said that they won the prize for designing and fabricating a
patentable working model of ‘E-Gel Doc’ instrument. He said that Sanjeev and
Neha have indigenously developed a two-in-one instrument which could be used
for analysis of DNA samples and for visualization of nucleic acid bands in a
very short time in a cost-effective manner.
The conventional
systems available in India are generally imported from abroad and cost lakhs of
rupees. This indigenously developed system could be made available at a very
low cost thus making it affordable to low budget institutions and laboratories.
This system makes use of Blue LEDs instead of hazardous UV light which makes it
safe for all the working professionals, he added.
