ECI declares PAN Card, Driving Licence and AAdhar letter valid documents as proof of DoB

 Election Commission of India has decided to accept PAN card, Driving License and Aadhar Letter issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as valid documents as proof of date of birth to be submitted with Form 6 and 8 by an applicant or elector for registration as an elector or correction in their existing entry in electoral roll.
          While stating this today, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr. Shrikant Walgad said that the revised list of documents to be accepted as proof of date of birth included birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authorities or district office of the Registrar of births and deaths or Baptism Certificate or birth certificate from the government or recognized school last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution. Also, if a person is class X or more pass, he should give a copy of the marksheet of class X, if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth or marksheet of class VIII, if it contains date of birth or marksheet of class V if it contains date of birth.The other such documents included a declaration in prescribed format, to be made available on demand by registration authorities, made by either of his parents, if the person is not educated upto class X. In other cases where parental declaration is given as proof of age, the applicant will have to be present himself for verification before Booth Level Officers or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers or Electoral Registration Officers. A certificate of his age given by a sarpanch of the concerned Gram Panchayat or by a member of the concerned Municipal Corporation or Municipal Committee could be submitted, in case the person is not educated upto class X and both the parents are not alive. He said that Indian Passport could also be submitted as proof of date of birth.
          He said that documentary proof of age will be required only in those cases, where age of the applicant is between 18 and 21 years. In all other cases declaration of his age by the applicant will be taken as proof of age. He said that all the other instructions issued by the Commission in this regard shall  remain unchanged. The guidelines for filling up of Form 6 and 8 have been modified accordingly, he added.
