Haryana Food and
Supplies Department has, under-20 point programme, cancelled licences of 95
depot holders and forfeited security amounting to over Rs 3.94 lakh of 157
dealers for irregularities committed by them in distribution of necessary items
in Public Distribution System recently.
While
stating this today, a spokesman of the Department said that four persons have
been arrested in different cases.
He
said that essential commodities are being provided to people through 9226 fair
price shops located in rural and urban areas and near industrial units, schools
and hostels in the State. As many as 6561 fair price shops are located in rural
areas whereas 2666 fair price shops are located in urban areas of the State. He
said that 77 fair price shops are located near industrial units and 22 are
located near schools and hostels.
He
said that the Central Government has, under Targeted Public Distribution
System (TPDS), allocated 27,616 tonnes of foodgrains to Haryana for
the period from April 2013 to March 2014. A quantity of 32533 metric tonnes of
wheat was allotted to Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries and 9982 metric
tonnes of wheat to beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in the month
of February, 2013. As per Planning Commission, there are 7.89 lakh BPL families
including AAY whereas as per survey of the State Government the number of such
families is 12.97 lakh.
He
said that village level committees of members of panchayat and others have been
constituted to ensure effective check over the fair price shops and to
supervise the distribution of controlled commodities.
Giving
district wise details of fair price shops, the spokesman said that there are
386 fair price shops in district Ambala, 665 in Bhiwani, 668 in Faridabad, 344
in Fatehabad, 195 in Gurgaon, 695 in Hissar, 321 in Jhajjar, 555 in Jind, 508
in Kaithal, 570 in Karnal, 434 in Kurukshetra, 359 in Mewat, 314 in Narnaul,
413 in Palwal, 158 in Panchkula, 472 in Panipat, 311 in Rewari, 280 in Rohtak,
599 in Sirsa, 412 in Sonipat and 567 in Yamunanagar.
