Flood Control Board approves 84 new schemes

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 11
 As many as 84 new schemes have been approved in the 44th meeting of Haryana State Flood Control Board held here today under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda to strengthen the Flood Control System in the State in view of the ensuing rainy season. A sum of Rs. 73 crore will be spent on these schemes.
Mr. Hooda directed the Deputy Commissioners  to take timely approval of flood related schemes and the work on these schemes should also be started at the earliest.  He directed that the meeting of Board should be held during the first week of January. Prior to this, the entire process of various schemes should be completed at Deputy Commissioner Level and at administrative level so that the work on various projects could be completed by June 30 before the commencement of monsoon season. Special emphasis should be given on quality and compromise on the quality would not be tolerated at any cost, he added.
Mr. Hooda directed the concerned officers to get a survey conducted of Rithal-Mundhal, Beri-Dujana, Lakhanmajra-Meham Drains through IIT, Roorkee or some other consultant to get the permanent engineering solution to the problem of scuffing. Mr. Hooda also directed the Engineering in Chief of Irrigation Department Mr. Harnek Singh to made available pump sets at districts where it has not been installed yet.
      On the issue of ‘Kuccha Bandh’ on river Tangri-Ghaggar in district Ambala, Mr. Hooda directed the Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation Mr K.K. Jalan to inspect the site and submit a report to him in this regard soon.
        To resolve the problem of foul smell emitting from the drain passing through Panipat City, Mr. Hooda directed the officers to get box drain constructed in the city and also explore the possibilities of commercial activities there. Mr. Hooda was apprised that the drain has a total length of nine kilometers and also passes through the residential area of Panipat.
Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Mr. Krishan Mohan apprised the Chief Minister that the work of special girdawari to assess the loss to crops due to untimely rain  and standing water has been completed and reports would be submitted by the concerned Deputy Commissioners within a week. The farmers would be given compensation as per the rules.
      The new flood schemes which have been approved in the meeting included 15 for Yamunanagar, seven for Ambala, 12 for district Rohtak, four for Jhajjar, two for  Bhiwani, one for  Kurukshetra, ten for Panchkula, four for Kaithal, three for  Karnal, four for  Panipat, two for Sonipat and one for district Palwal.
        Haryana Finance Minister Mr. Harmohinder Singh Chattha, Agriculture Minister Mr. Paramvir Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Sultan Singh, Chief Secretary Mr. P.K. Chaudhery, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Chattar Singh, Additional Principal Secretary Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, Deputy Principal Secretary Mr. R.S Doon,  Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Mr. Krishan Mohan, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation Mr. K.K. Jalan, Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Mr. P. Raghvendra Rao, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Mr. Roshan Lal, Engineering in Chief, PWD (B and R) Mr. Mahesh Kumar and other senior officers of various departments were also present in the meeting.
