15 crore UGC grant for MDU

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved grant of Rs. 15 crore 12 lac 50 thousand for Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU)Rohtak for the eleventh plan period.
MDU Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.P. Hooda said that UGC has allocated Rs. 10 crore 72 lac 50 thousand as General Development Grant, Rs. 4 crore 35 lac as Merged Schemes Grant and Rs. 5 lac for Internal Quality Assurance Cell. This grant has been approved on the recommendations of the UGC Visiting committee which visited MDU during Aug. 14-14, 2008. Notably, the Visiting Committee has appreciated the significant achievements made by MDU in several fields such as introduction of new courses, increase in number of teaching faculty, research publication/project(s) great number of academic activities including organization of workshops/seminars/conferences by the university etc.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.P. Hooda, while appreciating the UGC allocation grants, said that the grant amount will be utilized for development works, including campus development, library needs (books/journals), purchase of latest equipments, developing central facilities, etc. Dr. Hooda stated categorically that he was committed to build excellent physical infrastructure on the campus and develop a stimulating academic environ so that MDU emerges as a Centre of Academic Excellence in times to come.

Mrs. Asha Hooda inauguratese “Kaleidoscoe of Life” exhibition

Mrs. Asha Hooda wife of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vice President of Haryana State Child Welfare Council today inaugurated the 'Kaleidoscope of Life' an exhibition of paintings by Mrs. Meera Ahuja at Indradhanush Auditorium, Sector-5, Panchkula.
This three-day exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Cultural Affairs Wing of Information and Public Relations Department, Haryana.
After viewing the exhibition, Mrs. Hooda described Mrs. Ahuja as a dedicated and skilled painter. She said that all the paintings were beautifully captured on the canvass and the theme of her work covered a wide range of subjects, from general to specific.
While congratulating her, Mrs. Hooda appreciated her efforts as the woman artist despite of after being diagnosed with the celiac disease, in 2003 she make her way with great zeal and passion. She also purchased the paintings.
On this occasion, Commissioner and Director, Information and Public Relations Department, Haryana, Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, on behalf of Chief Minister had announced to provide an incentive money of Rs.51000 to Mrs. Meera Ahuja.
This is the first exhibition hold by Mrs. Ahuja, a housewife. She started painting in the year 2003. In her words, she said painting is a virtual passion and a therapy for me ever since I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Besides, the therapeutic benefits, apart, I derive great inner joy and solace while taking up the brush, she said.
A Management Graduate (MBA Finance) from Punjab AgriculturalUniversity, Mrs. Ahuja told that she had worked for a few years in a public sector undertaking but left job due to illness. Instead of sinking into depression, she took up pencil sketching and gradually went into water colours and oil paintings. Today, she had started experimenting with different forms of art and media. She creates and combines what fascinates here whether it is depiction of nature or portrait or a living being. For her painting is poetry in colour or black and white.
Media Advisor to Chief Minister, Sunder Pal, OSD to Chief Minister (Residence), Ravinder Singh Hooda, Deputy Commissioner, Pankaj Yadav, Chairman, Panjab Social Advisory Committee, Lakshmi Bhadu, City Magistrate, Ritu Choudhry and other officers of district administration were also present on this occasion.

CHANDIGARH, July 20

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 10.83 crore under 11th Plan General Development Grant Allocation to Guru Jambheshwar Science and Technology University (GJSTU), Hisar.
While disclosing this today, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr.Davender Dayal Singh Sandhu said that out of the total amount sanctioned by the UGC, over Rs. 5.12 crore had been sanctioned under General Development Grant Scheme, which is 150 per cent more as compared to the amount sanctioned during 10th Plan.
Similarly, over Rs. 5.65 crore had been sanctioned for various amalgamated schemes, which is 255 per cent more as compare to the amount sanctioned for these schemes during 10th Plan. Besides, a sum of Rs. five lakh had also been sanctioned for the first time for Internal Quality Assurance Cell, he added.
It may be recalled that a High Powered Committee of UGC under the chairmanship of Prof.R.P.Singh, the former VC of Lucknow University, visited the GJSTU, Hisar last year to know its requirements and UGC has sanctioned the grant on the basis of the recommendations of this Committee.
The High Powered Committee of UGC was all praise for the achievements of the University. As per the recommendations of the Committee, the University has the capacity to make its marks in the field of Science and Technology at both National and International level.

1200 take part in Essay Writing Competition

As many as 1200 students from various educational institutions and schools of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh participated in the Bhai Surinder Singh Malik Memorial on-the-spot All-India Essay Writing Competition organized by the Jat Sabha, Chandigarh at Jat Bhawan, here, Ch. Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani (Jind), Kanya Gurukul Khan Pur Kalan (Sonepat), M.D.N. Public School Rohtak, Viswas Senior Secondary School Hisar, S.D. High School Lakhan-Majra(Rohtak), Saraswati Senior Secondary School Murthal (Sonepat) and Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Julana (Jind).

of Police, Haryana presided over the cCompetition and Ms. Sarita Malik, HCS declared on the spot topic namely: “Illiteracy is a Curse” or “Foeticide Killing of a Girl Child Before Birth is a Crime Against Humanity”. Candidates were given choice to attempt the essay in Hindi or English. Prof. M. L. Dhawan, Sh. H. S. Bhadu, Director Haryana Olympic Association, Mr R. K. Malik, General Secretary, Mr B. S. Gill, Secretary, Mr J.S. Dhillon, Public Relation Secretary, Mr Manbir Singh Sangwan, Auditor of Jat Sabha, Chandigarh and other members of the Sabha were present on this Occasion. Mr. Dalip Singh, Director, Ch. Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani (Jind) declared the topic at this centre. The competition was divided in two categories i.e. in rural amd urban Area.
According to Mr R. K. Malik, General Secretary Jat Sabha, Chandigarh the competition is organized every year as a permanent educational feature of the Sabha which vividly offers an opportunity to the young students of the schools and colleges/universities to play their significant rich and constructive role in promoting the creative interests for educational & cultural activities through their rich thoughts.
Mr. Malik further declared that the result of the essay contest would be declared later after checking of the papers by experts of Punjab University, Chandigarh. The winners will be honoured on the occasion of Basant Panchmi and 128th Birth Anniversary of Deen Bandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, leader of peasants and down-trodden on January 20, 2010 at Jat Bhawan Chandigarh.
The topper in both the categories will be awarded with gold medal and cash prize of Rs. 1100 whereas the second and third prize winners in each category will be awarded silver medal and cash. Rs. 900 and bronze medal and cash. Rs. 700 respectively. Besides this consolation prizes of Rs. 400,Rs. 300 and two prizes of Rs. 200 each will be given in each category. This contest is held every year in the memory of Bhai Surinder Singh Malik and expenses of the contest are arranged by Bhai Surinder Singh Malik Memorial Medical Education and Research Institute, Nidani Distt. Jind (Haryana).

Applications invited for B Sc Nursing and BPT course in BDSUHS

Pt.Bhagwad Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak has invited applications for admission to four-year B.Sc. Nursing course, BPT course, two-year Para Medical Ophthalmic Assistant course, three-year Diploma in Radiography and Therapy Technology and two-year Dental Hygienist and Dental Mechanic course.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the University said that the prospectus containing application forms and OMR sheet could be obtained at a cost of Rs.500 (Rs.125 for Haryana domicile SCs/BCs)from the office of Assistant Administrative Officer (Education),Pt.Bhagwad Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak or by registered post by sending a draft of Rs.550 (Rs.175 for Haryana domicile SCs/BCs) in favour of Finance Controller, Pt.Bhagwad Dayal
Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.
The entrance test for admission to these courses would be held on August 9, 2009, said the spokesman, adding that applications complete in all respect should reach examination controller, Pt.Bhagwad Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak by July 27, 2009.
Giving details of the qualifications for these courses, he said that candidates applying for Nursing course should have passed Senior School Certificate examination (10 +2) of Board of School Education, Haryana or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with atleast 45 per cent marks for general category, 40 per cent marks for SC/ST and other Backward Classes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English taken together in qualifying and competitive examination. However, the candidate must obtain pass marks in each subject
separately.
For BPT course, the candidates should have passed Senior Secondary certificate Examination (10+2) of Board of School Education Haryana or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the aggregate in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English taken together and has obtained 50 per cent marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology both at qualifying and competitive examinations. In
case of SC/ST and other Backward Classes candidates the marks obtained should be read as 40 per cent both at qualifying and competitive examinations, he added.
He said that the candidates applying for Ophthalmic Assistant course,
should have passed Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) of Board of School Education, Haryana or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with atleast 50 per cent marks for general category. 40 per cent marks SC/ST and other Backward Classes in each subject i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Preference would be given to the candidates with Biology.
The candidates applying for Radiography and Therapy Technology course, should have passed Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent examination securing with atleast 50 per cent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in qualifying and competitive examinations. In case of SC/ST and other Backward Classes candidates
the marks obtained should be 40 per cent both at qualifying and competitive examinations and for Dental Hygienist and Dental Mechanic course, should have passed Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2) of Board of School Education, Haryana or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English and should also have secured pass marks (33 per cent) in
the competitive examination, he added.

MDU guidelines for B Ed admission

Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak has issued strict guidelines to the Colleges of Education regarding B.Ed. (Regular) admission for the session 2009-2010.
MDU registrar Dr. S.P. Vats has issued a circular to the Colleges of Education to ensure proper checking of eligibility conditions of the students.
Colleges of education have been asked to verify the information provided by the students in their admission form(s) from their original documents before allowing admission/accepting fee from the students. In the circular, it has been categorically stated that it would be the responsibility of the college concerned to ensure that no ineligible candidate is admitted to B.Ed. (Regular) course. Case(s)
of discrepancy, if any, should be brought to the notice of University
immediately.
Notably, MDU has been entrusted the responsibility of conducting the admission process of B.Ed. (Regular) course in Colleges of Education in Haryana. The last date for submission of application forms in this
regard is July 15.
