Indian Railways set up title clash with Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi in finals



JALANDHAR, OCT 30

 Indian Railways Delhi will clash swords with holders Punjab & Sind Bank of  Delhi in the finals of the 38th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Katoch Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar Cantonment on Sunday at 2.00 p.m. 

The winners will receive a cheque of Rs 5 lakh  and the Winners Trophy whereas runners-up will get a prize money of Rs 2 lakh and the trophy.

.Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will give away the prizes to the teams. Whereas Education, Sports Minister  Pargat Singh and NRI Affairs Minister will preside over the function.

  In the first semi-finals Indian Railways Delhi beat Punjab National Bank Delhi by 2-1 to book a berth in the finals. In second semi finals Punjab & Sind bank Delhi edged out Punjab Police by 1-0 to enter finals. Railways entered in the final for the third time whereas Punjab & Sind Bank for the 18th time.

 In the first semi finals Indian Railways Delhi displayed controlled play. The first two quarters were goalless. In these two quarters Indian Railways dominated but were not able to score. In the third quarter’s 34th minute Pardeep Singh of Indian Railways scored a field goal (1-0). 

In the 54th minute Varinder Singh consolidated for Indian Railways with a field goal (2-0). In the 57th minute of the play Punjab National bank reduced the margin when their Bhagat Singh Dhillon converted the penalty corner (1-2).  

 In the second semi-finals Punjab & Sind Bank and Punjab Police displayed good hockey. In the second quarter’s 25th minute Gaganpreet Singh put Bank ahead with penalty corner conversion (1-0).After that Punjab Police wasted three penalty corners in a row. At half time Bank was leading by 1-0. In Last quarter Punjab Police wasted three chances to score.
