Centres clears two mega food parks forHaryana

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 25
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today said that the Central Government has approved two mega food parks for Haryana which will be set up in Sonipat and Panipat districts of the state. Besides large scale investments this, these projects would generate direct and indirect employment for 41,000 youth in the state and would strengthen the financial position of the state along with  improving the rural financial management in Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Jind districts.
This was stated by the Chief Minister in the ongoing Budget Session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
            While giving details of each project, Mr Manohar Lal said that Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) would set up the project in Sonipat district over an area of 75 acres with project investments of Rs. 164.33 crore at Industrial Estate Barhi. The Central Government would provide grant assistance of Rs. 50 crore for this project. Nearly 40 to 50 food processing units would set up their facilities, with project investments in the region of Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 crore. He said that total employment generation would be around 11,000, including direct and indirect. This project is likely to benefit the entrepreneurs and farmers of a number of nearby districts as well, including – Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind etc, he added.
He said that the proposed Mega Food Park would primarily focus at processing and value addition of perishable commodities like fruits and vegetables, spices and dairy products. Additionally, based on the raw material availability and assessment in the primary and secondary catchment area of the park, a significant number of processing units would also be set up which would be focused on food grains, cereals, oil seed, pulses and medicinal plant etc.
The Chief Minister said that Continental Warehousing Corporation (NhavaSeva) Limited would set up the other project in Panipat district. This Mega Food Park would be set up over an area of about 53 acres at Village Jhattipur, Tehsil Smalakha, in Panipat district. The site is near broad gauge rail line and Diwana railway station. He said that the project or park has been promoted by Mr Daya Kar Reddy, Managing Director, Continental Warehousing Corporation (NhavaSeva) from Chennai.
He said that the project cost of Rs. 157.46 crore would be funded by way of promoters’ contribution and loan component of Rs. 107.46 crore and grant assistance of Rs. 50 crore. The project investment would be in core processing facilities, which would comprise of Common Processing facilities, Multi-crop cold store, warehouse, test lab, Incubation centre, Reefer vans etc. He said that this project was expected to have 30-35 food processing units with a collective investment of around Rs. 250 crore and direct and indirect employment potential of about 30,000 persons.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, had received 72 proposals, out of which 17 proposals from 11 States of the country, including Haryana, have been selected and approved for implementation, he added.
