UK expresses interest in collaboration with Haryana

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 11
United Kingdom (UK) has evinced keen interest in collaboration with Haryana in the field of education, technical education, renewable energy, solid waste management, health and Smart City Project.
A delegation led by Mr Philip Hammond Member of Parliament, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, UK called on Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal here today and discussed various issues of mutual interest and expressed desire to exchange expertise between UK and Haryana.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana is surrounded the National Capital from three sides and has huge potential for investment in almost all fields. Besides education, infrastructure, health, renewable energy, governance reforms, ‘Swatch Bharat Swach Haryana programme’ is among the top priorities of the State Government. Apart from this the State Government is embarked upon a new major initiative of providing IT based delivery of services. Facility of e-services would be taken up to village level by the end of this year, he added.
It was informed in the meeting that the State Government has introduced new system of e-delivery of registries in all Tehsils of the State to make the process more transparent. A citizen data base is being created in the State and all the services would be linked with it.
The delegation was also informed that Haryana has commissioned 61 projects of the total capacity of 234.79 MW in the Renewable Energy Sector till now. Of these, nine projects of 12.8 MW are of Solar MW scale power. Haryana has Renewable Energy Power Policy, Solar Power Policy, Net Metering Policy and the State aims to achieve generation of 175.0 MW of electricity from Renewable Energy Sources by the year 2020-21.
Mr Manohar Lal said that the government is committed to ensure proper waste management in the State. He said that earlier, traditional system of management of solid waste were used in the villages but after assuming the reign of present State Government, we have set up solid waste management systems at various places. He welcomed the assistance from the UK in waste processing, water segregation of source and waste to energy projects.
Mr Philip Hammond requested the Chief Minister to extend the programme of teaching assistance of UK even in the government schools of the State. On this he was informed that an MoU was signed between British Council and Department of Education, Haryana for schools EQUIPS (education quality improvement pathway for schools). As many as 100 government schools in six districts were selected for improving quality of education and teachers training. This MoU may be extended and more schools covering all districts should be taken up. He was also informed that the State Government is interested in collaboration of programmes to increase skill based learning and programmes for development of spoken English.
Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Additional Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister namely Mrs Sumita Misra and Mr Rakesh Gupta, Principal Secretary, Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department Mr R.K Khullar and its Director General Mr Abhilaskh Likhi were also present in the meeting.
