Affected farmers to get Rs 1000 crore compensation

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 9
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that State government is maintaining complete transparency in Girdawari as a result of which hefty compensation of over Rs.1000 crore is to be given to affected farmers for their crop loss due to recent untimely rains and hailstorm. This amount would be about 10 times higher as against compensation of Rs.123 crore given by previous government for crop loss due to drought in the year 2014.
The Chief Minister, who was addressing a well attended public meeting at Kalka  today, said that farmers had suffered a heavy loss in the month of March and again in first week of April due to hailstorm and rains. Keeping in view the plight of the farmers, the Government had immediately ordered special Girdawari to assess the crop loss which would be completed by April 15. He assured that complete amount of compensation would be given to affected farmers within a month after the completion of Girdawari.
He said that State government has also announced to give increased amount of compensation per acre to farmers. He said that farmers would now get compensation at the rate of Rs 12,000 per acre, and Rs 10,000 per acre, in case of 76 to 100 per cent loss to wheat and mustard crops, respectively as against Rs.10,000 and Rs.7500 given earlier. Similarly, the rate of compensation in case of damage of 50 to 75 per cent to wheat has been increased to Rs 9,500 per acre instead of Rs.7500, and for mustard, Rs 7,000 per acre as against Rs.5000 per acre. In case of damage of 25 to 50 per cent, the compensation at the rate of Rs 7,000 would be given for wheat, and Rs 5,500 for mustard crop.
While describing the parameters fixed for compensation by the previous government as a joke, the Chief Minister said that earlier, the farmers used to get Rs.10, Rs.20 and Rs.50 as compensation, but now the present government has decided that the minimum cheque for compensation would be of Rs.500. He said that State government has prepared schemes for irrigation purposes and would also promote micro-irrigation system. The government had also decided to release 10,000 electricity connections for tubewells which were pending upto March 31, 2012. So far, electricity connections have been released upto year 2011.
Those present on this occasion included, State BJP President Mr. Subhash Barala, Member of Parliament Mr. Ratan Lal Kataria, MLAs Mrs, Latika  Sharma and Mr. Gian Chand Gupta, senior BJP leader Prof. Ganeshi Lal and other leaders and dignitaries.
