Students may no longer have to obtain true copies of marksheets or certificates

 YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has signed an agreement with the Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) for setting-up the National Academic Depository (NAD) cell.
          It may be recalled that the University Grants Commission (UGC) in its circular had asked the Universities to set up a NAD cell and enter into a Service Level Agreement with either of two approved depositories namely NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML) and CDSL Ventures Limited (CVL) to keep the academic awards in the digital format and ensure data integrity.
          Expressing pleasure over the agreement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that creating and maintaining a digital depository for the academic certificates is an important task that comes with a lot of responsibility. He said that this initiative would further strengthen the verification of academic credentials of the students by the prospective employers as well as institutions of higher studies.
          Registrar, Dr. S. K. Sharma said that with this initiative, students no longer have to obtain true copies of marksheets or certificates duly certified at the time of admissions. In near future, the University may choose to discontinue issuance of paper based certificates.
          Controller of Examination of the University, Dr. Hari Om apprised that maintaining academic awards in an electronic depository which would provide benefit to educational institutions, students and employers by enabling online access of academic awards which will eliminate the need for persons to approach educational institutions for obtaining transcripts of such awards or marks-sheets for verification. It would also eliminate fraudulent practices such as forging of certificates and mark-sheets, thereby reducing/eliminating reputational risk to Academic Institutions. He said that the University has designated Mr. Sachin Gupta as Nodal Officer for NAD who will work under the supervision of Dr. Naresh Chauhan, Nodal Officer (Digital India). 
          The official of the CDSL Ventures said that CDSL Ventures Limited (CVL), a wholly owned subsidiary of CDSL, and is the first and largest KYC Registration Agency (KRA) in India with over 1.6 crore KYC records. CVL is one of the depositories which has been mandated by MHRD to develop the NAD system.  NAD is an online store house of academic awards such as degrees, diplomas, certificates and mark-sheets lodged by the academic institutions in a digital format. Through NAD processing, the information will be made available round the clock which will help in validating the authenticity of information, their safe storage and easy retrieval.
