Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that it has been decided to set up 'Mahila Shakti Sadan' in all villages of the State so as to provide a common place to the women for organising various activities for their empowerment, awareness
generation, training camps and meetings.
The Chief Minister, who was addressing a largely attended function organized to mark Republic Day celebrations at Gurgaon, said that although a lot of progress had been made in various fields of development, yet there was a need to introspect to reaffirm our commitments towards the society, the State and the nation.
Mr Hooda said that with a view to scale new heights, we would have to unitedly fight against illiteracy, female foeticide, dowry system and drug abuse. He also urged the people to rise above parochial differences to give a befitting reply to the divisive forces and those of terrorism which were challenging our unity and
secularism.
He said that the Haryana Government had been marching ahead to realise the dreams of our founding fathers. The State Government has implemented a number of schemes to usher in social revolution to fully achieve the very objective of democracy.
He reminded the people of the sacrifices made by our great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. He said that the brave soldiers of Haryana too had made supreme sacrifices not only in the First War of Independence of 1857,
but also in safeguarding the borders of the country. The First War of Independence had started from Ambala Cantt. and people of Gurgaon area had played a vital role in it.
Mr Hooda enlisted a number of schemes being implemented by the State Government and said that the pension for freedom fighters had been increased from Rs 1525 to Rs 5500 per month and they have also been given the installment of dearness allowance. The Government has also announced many incentives to serving soldiers, ex-servicemen and their dependents. The farmer being the basis of economy of the country, the State Government has declared the year 2009 as the 'Year of Farmer and
Labourer'.
He said that the State Government had not only waived off the arrears of electricity bills amounting to Rs 1600 crore, but had also waived off the interest on loans of Cooperative Banks, thus benefitting the hard pressed people to the tune of Rs 471 crore. The loan waiver scheme announced by the Central Government under the guidance of UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, had benefitted the farming community to the tune of Rs 71,000 crore.
Under this scheme, 7.12 lakh farmers of Haryana could get their loans amounting to Rs 2129 crore waived off. The farmers in Haryana have been given the highest ever rate of Rs 170 per quintal for sugarcane.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to get Haryana's due share in Ravi-Beas waters through Sutlej-Yamuna link canal adding that efforts were being made in this regard. The construction of BML-Hansi Butana Canal has almost completed to ensure equitable distribution of canal water and Dadupur-Nalvi canal was also been constructing on war-footing. A Rs 326 crore Mewat Canal Scheme has been prepared.
Mr Hooda said that more than 1000 doctors have been appointed and all health institutions in the State were being upgraded to the level of Indian Public Health Standard. Patients in Government hospitals were being given free medicines for which a budget of Rs 50 lakh has been provided to each Civil Surgeon. He said that more than 65,000 residential plots of 100 sq. yards each have been allotted free of cost to the eligible beneficiaries during last three months and six lakh families would be benefitted in next two years.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also unfurled the tri-colour and took salute from various contingents which presented an impressive march past.
The Chief Minister also honoured 26 officials and officers, sports persons and students for making outstanding performance in their respective fields. The school children presented a colourful cultural programme and PT show. A number of tableux highlighting the significant achievements made by various departments of the Government were also taken out. The tableu of Health Department was ranked first
and that of Industrial Training Institute, Gurgaon was ranked second.
The tableu of SNS Foundation was ranked third. Mr Hooda also gave prizes to these winners.
The Chief Minister announced holiday for two days in all government and private schools in Gurgaon. He also announced to give Rs 2 lakh for distribution of sweets to all those students who had participated in the function today.
Mr Hooda also visited war memorial at Zone hall in Gurgaon and laid a wreath to pay homage to all those who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country and safeguard our borders. He also honoured war widows and freedom fighters on the occasion.
