Haryana first state to distribute pensions on first of every month

 Haryana has become the first state in the country to disburse pensions under various social security scheme to the beneficiaries in cash on the first of every month.  Today 6067 Gram Panchayats and 85 Municipalities have started disbursing the pension amount for the month of July to over 20.63 lakh beneficiaries in cash. The Department has transferred Rs 126 crore electronically in the dedicated accounts of these institutions.
            While stating this here today, the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mrs Geeta Bhukkal said that now the beneficiaries would not have any tension in receiving their pensions. Eliminating all the unnecessary channels, the pension disbursement system had been simplified and the data base of the pensioners had been upgraded and sanctified.  
The pension would now be directly transferred to the dedicated accounts of  6067 Gram Panchayats  and 85 Municipalities which had been opened solely for this purposes in the last one and a half month. The department had also prepared a directory of the account holders and the bank representatives to monitor the disbursement from head quarter only. The pension which remains undisbursed by fifth of every month would return to the department and from next month the pension would be disbursed accordingly.  
            She said that earlier the pension was transferred by the district Social Welfare Officer to the Block Development and Panchayat Officer who in turn provided the funds to the Sarpanches in the form of Bank Drafts. It was long process which used to result in delay of the disbursement of pensions. However with the present system in place, the pensions would be timely disbursed, she added.
            She said that the list of the pensioners had also been upgraded. At present, 45886 beneficiaries were availing benefits under Old Age Pension scheme and 13982 under other pension schemes which included widow pension, pension to persons with physical disability, financial assistance to destitute children, financial assistance under Ladli Social Security Allowance Scheme etc. The names of 54609 deceased and 13558 ineligible beneficiaries had been deleted as per the upgraded list of pensioners.  The beneficiaries of 251 villages which had been converted into Municipalities had als
