Haryana to celebrate three-day Sarasvati Mahotsav

CHANDIGARH, NOV 24
 The Haryana Government has decided to celebrate three-day Sarasvati Mahotsav on the occasion of Basant Panchmi in three districts namely Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Kaithal. Beside this, an exhibition on Sarasvati Heritage will also be displayed at Kurukshetra on Geeta Jayanti from December 17 to 21, 2015.
          These and other decisions were taken in the first General Body meeting of Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal here today.
          The Chief Minister said that this year three-day exhibition on Sarasvati Heritage will also be organized in all districts during Geeta Jayanti celebrations. He said that Kurukshetra Development Board would be expanded for ensuring overall development of all tiraths falling under the jurisdiction of Board. On a suggestion, he also directed for making separate arrangement for Pehowa tirth.  
The Chief Minister also directed the officers to complete the demarcation work on Sarasvati course by December 31 this year so that further action could be taken for its rejuvenation and development. Besides, Detailed Project Report for construction of check dams, reservoir and viability should be completed by the end of February 2016. First of all, the Board should conduct lengthwise demarcation of the river course so that track of Sarasvati course could be identified and to plan accordingly. He directed the officers to find the ground level course of  Sarasvati River from Aadi Bdri to Ottu in Sirsa.
          The Board also approved the proposal for development of tourism circuit including Sarasvati-tirthas, rejuvenation of Sarasvati Nadi Darshan Sthal and constitution of monitoring committees with the provision of social audit system.
          Deputy Chairman of the Board Mr. Prashant Bhardwaj thanked the Chief Minister for taking necessary steps to initiate, promote and support research in the field of Sarasvati Heritage and also to assist in its preservation and restoration. He said that Sarasvati River stream is completely mentioned in revenue record. He said that two check dams would be constructed on Som River. The project would boost tourism at large scale. He also highlighted the scientific basis and objectives of the Sarasvati.
          Deputy Commissioners of Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Kaithal presented progress reports on ongoing activities on Sarasvati River in the meeting.
          Education Minister Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma, Chief Secretary Mr. D.S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. R.K. Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary, Cultural Affairs, Mr Vijai Vardhan,  Additional Chief Secretary Irrigation, Mr. Ram Niwas, Principal Secretary Tourism, Mrs. Sumita Misra, Non Official members of State Sarasvati Heritage Development Board and other senior officers of the State Government were also present in the meeting.
