Haryana saves Rs 27,000 crore through digital transactions

CHANDIGARH, FEB 18
With the start of digital transactions from November 9, 2016, a sum of Rs 27,000 crore has so far been saved under the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme and about 35 per cent people have taken to the debit card, RuPay card and e-wallet services for making payments in Haryana.
          This was disclosed in the presence of the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr Krishan Pal, and the Haryana Education Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma, at the inaugural function of the Digi Dhan Mela and Basant Utsav, at Panchkula, near here, today.
          Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Krishan Pal said that 100 Digi Dhan Melas were being organised in the country to encourage people to adopt cashless transaction system for making payments. So far, 56 such melas have been held. This is the third such mela after Gurugram and Sonipat.
          Prizes are being given every day under the Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana. Every day, 15,000 prizes are given on cashless transactions of minimum Rs 50, and maximum of up to Rs 3,000.
          Mega prizes would be given on the occasion of Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, 2017 which would include cash prizes of Rs 1 crore, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh as first, second and third prizes, respectively.
          Mr Krishan Pal urged the people to make digital transactions to realise the dream of the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, and also encourage others to adopt this system. The main aim of Digi Dhan Mela is to give people message of ‘Mera Mobile-Mera Bank-Mera Batua’, he added.
          Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma thanked Arjuna Awardee, Mr. Sanjay Phogat, international shooter, Ms. Gauri Sheoran, and Kings Eleven Punjab (IPL) player, Mr. Manan Vohra, and others for attending the mela and expressed the hope that such melas would inspire people to adopt digital payment methods.
          Vice-Chairman, National Payments Corporation of India, Mr. Pushpendra Singh, and Deputy Director, NITI Aayog, Ms. Sukhdeep Kaur, gave detailed information about various digital schemes. The Union Minister of State went around the Mela and bought fruits from the stall of Raipur Rani Market Committee through cashless transaction.
          Others present on this occasion included Member of Parliament, Ambala, Mr. Ratan Lal Kataria, MLA Panchkula, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta, MLA, Kalka, Mrs. Latika Sharma, Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Mrs. Ritu Singla, BJP Women Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Banto Kataria, BJP District President, Mr. Deepak Sharma, District President Youth Wing, Mr. Yogender Sharma, former BJP District President, Mr. Vishal Seth, General Secretary, Mr. Harinder Malik, Virender Rana, Managing Director, HARTRON, Mr. Vijayendra Kumar and others.
