More financial powers for Gram Panchayats in Haryana

 With a view to provide more financial powers and rights to the Gram Panchayats, Haryana Government has increased the cash-in-hand amount of panchayats from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.
            While stating this today, an official spokesman said that many decisions have been taken to make Panchayati Raj institutions more responsible for works undertaken by them. He said that Panchayat Samitis would be granted Rs 50 lakh annually for various development works. He said that to provide clean drinking water in the rural areas, the panchayats would be provided Rs 11,000 under one tube well plan, Rs 15,000 under two tube well plan and Rs 20,000 under three tube well plan for maintenance of tube wells every month. Also, the Gram Panchayats have been given right to take decisions regarding development works to be done by Panchayati Raj Engineering Wing costing Rs 10 lakh.
            He said that monthly honorarium of Chairmen and Members of Panchayat Samitis has been increased to Rs 6000 and Rs 1200 respectively. Similarly, monthly honorarium of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Members of Zila Parishads has been increased to Rs 7500, Rs 6000 and Rs 2500 respectively. He said that the monthly remuneration of Safai Karamcharis working in villages has been increased from Rs 3525 to Rs 4348. He said that Development and Panchayats Department would take care of the maintenance of statues of martyrs and freedom fighters installed in the rural areas.
            He said that Rajiv Gandhi Suchna Kendras would be set up in 101 villages of Sirsa district costing Rs 10 lakh each. He said that more than Rs 12 crore would be spent on construction of these Suchna Kendras. At block level, Suchna Kendras costing Rs 25 lakh each would be set up. These Kendras would be equipped with internet and computer facility.
