Birender Singh and Suresh Prabhu file nomination papers

CHANDIGARH, NOV 25
Union Ministers Birender Singh and Suresh Prabhu filed their nomination papers for bye-election to two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana in the presence of Speaker Mr Kanwarpal Gujjar and Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal at Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
Union Minister for Rural Development and Pachayati Raj Mr Birender Singh and Union Minister for Railways Mr Suresh Prabhu presented two sets of nomination papers each to the Returning Officer of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Mr Sumit Kumar. Speaker Mr Kanwarpal, Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal and Incharge of BJP Affairs in Haryana Mr Anil Jain congratulated them on their filing nominations for Rajya Sabha seats.
Haryana has five seats in Rajya Sabha and at present, three members are representing Haryana in the Rajya Sabha. They included Mr Shadi Lal Batra and Kumari Selja of Congress and Mr Ram Kumar of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Ministers, MLAs and other distinguished personalities including Mrs Uma Prabhu, wife of Mr Suresh Prabu were also present on this occasion.
Later, while interacting with the media persons Mr Birender Singh and Mr Prabhu hoped that they would unanimously be elected to Rajya Sabha.
In reply to a question, Union Minister for Railways Mr Suresh Prabhu said that it was a matter of pride that he has got an opportunity to file nomination to Rajya Sabha from Haryana. Earlier, he had been elected as Member of Parliament from Maharashtra on four occasions. He said that Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has an aim to ensure the overall development of all the States. In the same series, the people of Haryana have chosen a new path of development by electing the BJP government in the State under the able leadership of Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal.
Describing Haryana as a prosperous State, Mr Prabhu assured that besides contributing for the development of the country, he and his Cabinet colleague Mr Birender Singh would jointly strive to take Haryana further ahead on the path of development. Apart from this, they would also ensure that Haryana also gets the benefit of various schemes and programmes being implemented by the Central Government.
When Mr Birender Singh was asked to comment on how he feels on being moved to Rajya Sabha after becoming the Cabinet Minister, he said that there is nothing new as he was a Member of Rajya Sabha earlier also. On asked to comment on a statement in which he had said that Rajya Sabha seats are available for Rs 100 crore, in Haryana, Mr Birender said he has spent only Rs 100 for the same in BJP.
