Pinjore Mango Mela on July 4

CHANDIGARH, JULY 2
The two-day 24th Mango Mela is being held at Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore near here from July 4.
Haryana Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma will inaugurate the  Mango Mela on July 4 at 6 p.m. It is   being organised  jointly by Haryana Tourism  and Horticulture Department. Mrs. Latika Sharma, M.L.A., Kalka will grace the occasion. Haryana Agriculture Minister O.P. Dhankar will be the chief  guest in the concluding ceremony  on July 5 at 6 p.m.
        While stating this at a press conference here today, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Mr. Dhanpat Singh and Principal Secretary, Haryana Tourism Corporation, Dr. Sumita Misra   said that in tune with its corporate social responsibility initiative, Haryana Tourism has invited differently-abled students to visit the Mango Mela on   July 4 and senior citizens from registered senior citizen societies of Panchkula and Chandigarh on   July 5. They will be allowed free entry and would be served complimentary lunch.
For the first time, yoga sessions will be organised  during the Mela, where visitors can learn different asanas for inner well-being from a yoga expert. The  Mango Mela  would also unfold  feasting, festivities and fun. Also it celebrates Mango as the ‘King of Fruits’.      
  Mr. Dhanpat Singh said that Mango Mela is an event that people look forward to, as it offers an opportunity to see and taste best quality mangoes and enjoy activities like cultural programmes, shopping for handlooms and handicrafts and relish mouth-watering delicacies. The main objective behind organising this two-day Mango Mela is to encourage growers to adopt latest practices to increase the mango production and quality  so that they may get maximum return from their produce by tapping domestic and international market.  
          Dr. Misra said that on the first day of the Mango Mela , the receipt of entries of Mangoes and Mango products will start at  7  a.m.  On the same day,   competitions for students like Mango Quiz and Mango Eating will commence at  10 a.m. The school students will also present interesting group dance performances on stage to entertain the visitors. A renowned Punjabi singer Sarthi K. will perform live on   July 4 from 6.30 pm onwards.
        She said that on the second day of the Mela , from 10 a.m. onwards, competitions for students like Mango Story Writing and Mango Cut-Out will be organised. Tiny tots to catwalk in their pretty outfits during a Kids Fashion Show at 12  noon. There will be exciting solo dance performances   by school students to regale the audience. Further adding to the charm of the Mela will be the enthralling performances of day performers and cultural artistes sponsored by North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala   who would present  varied folk dance forms – Ghoomer and Phag of Haryana,Bhangra and Gidha  of Punjab, Rouf  of Jammu and Kashmir  and Been Sapera. Also watch the fascinating martial art of Punjab, Gatka to be performed on both days of the Mela.
        Under another unique initiative, Haryana Tourism is offering an opportunity to students who underwent training in Food Production under Government of India’s Hunar Se Rozgar Tak scheme through Haryana Tourism to showcase their talent and sell their products at the Mela. Also,  witness live demonstration of products being made from mangoes and discover the benefits of mangoes!
        A multi-cuisine Food Court will be set up to serve mouth-watering cuisines including the robust flavours from Punjab, subtle aromas of the South and oriental flavours of Chinese along with Indian street food. Similarly, the Crafts Bazaar will be another added attraction of the Mela. At the Crafts Bazaar, there will be display and sale of handlooms and handicrafts by talented craftspersons/weavers from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan etc.
        Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Corporation, Mr. Sandeep Garg said that that with passage of time, the Mela has become a major cultural event of this region.
