  Haryana aims to spend Rs 1,000 crore under  MGNREGA  

Chandigarh, March 7 

 Strengthening rural areas, Haryana Government has provided nearly two and a half times more work, this year as compared to last year, to the labourers of the state under the MNREGA scheme.

While interacting with media persons, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Dushyant Chautala, who also holds the portfolio of Rural Development and Panchayats Department, said that in the last financial year 2019-20, labourers were given 91.19 lakh days of work under MNREGA scheme in lieu of which Rs 387.95 crore was paid to them. With the view to enhance the economic condition of the labourers during COVID-19 the State Government provided them with as much work as possible till March 6 for which they were paid Rs. 861.60 crore for 170.48 lakh workdays. This amount is about two and a half times that of the previous year. In the current financial year 2020-21, the State Government aims to spend Rs 1,000 crore under the MGNREGA, he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that this year 415 gram panchayats, apart from those which have come under the urban area, have been covered under MNREGA scheme. Whereas last year there were 1800 such panchayats in which no MNREGA work was done.

Tomorrow, from March 8, 2021 the panchayats in the Haryana will be functional again.

Mr Dushyant Chautala said that the ban on all the financial transactions of Gram Panchayats and other Panchayati Raj institutions on February 15, 2021 has been removed from March 8, provided that they will function under the supervision of their concerned administrator. He said that tenders costing over Rs. 5 lakh will be processed online.

Suggestions to formulate rules for 75 percent jobs in private institutions welcome Mr Dushyant Chautala also said that suggestions have been invited from industrial associations, Chambers etc. across the country by e-mail, letter etc. to help formulate rules for 75 percent reservation for the youth of the state in private companies and other organizations. If required, discussions will also be held over video conferencing.
