National Girl Child Day celebrated in Haryana

 National Girl Child Day was celebrated throughout  Haryana  in a befitting manner with the objective to raise social awareness about girl child and at the State level function Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Mrs Geeta Bhukkal stressed the need for social boycott of those indulged in crimes against women.
          As many as 29 girl students were honored for their outstanding achievements in various fields at the State level function organized by Haryana Woman and Child Development Department at Panchkula near here today.
           While congratulating the department for organising the State level function on this occasion, Mrs. Bhukkal said that National Girl Child Day is being observed in the entire state with the objective to raise social awareness about the girl child. Today, women were at the top   in   every sector. They should identify their capabilities as they were not less than anyone.
          While expressing concern over the declining sex ratio, Mrs. Bhukkal said that government was concerned about this issue and a number of measures were being taken to check it. Apart from government, the   people should also come forward and raise voice against such heinous crimes. She also sought cooperation of media and social organizations to eradicate this evil from this society. She quoted the example of former Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, known as “Iron Lady” and said that she was the only daughter of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who made her unique identity in the entire world.
          The Minister said that State government is implementing a number of schemes including Ladli, free education to girls, subsidy on educational loans and for the welfare of girl child and also adopting a multi-pronged approach to address the declining sex ratio. In this series, punishment had been awarded to doctors indulged in female foeticide. Besides, such clinics had been sealed. She said that state government had taken concrete steps against the incidents of crime against women. Apart from launching of helpline number 1091 for women, the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda had directed Home Department for prompt action in cases of crime against women . There is a need to change the mindset of the people, she added.
         Speaking on this occasion, Principal Secretary  , Woman and Child Development Department Mrs. Dheera Khandelwal said that Haryana Government is doing very well for girl child whether it is girls education, their health or their participation in sports. He also congratulated the students who were honoured on this occasion. She also urged to eradicate social evils like female foeiticide and dowry.
          Director General of Women and Child Development Department Mrs. Sumita Misra and Chairperson State Woman Commission Mrs. Sushila Sharma also spoke on this occasion.
          Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ashima Brar, number of students and officers of district administration were also present on this occasion.
