Election campaign will end on April 28 in Haryana

Campaign for the April 10 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana will end tomorrow. Election campaigning would be completely banned after 6 pm on April 8, 2014 that is 48 hours prior to polling.
While giving this information here today, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana Mr. Shrikant Walgad said that campaigning by contesting candidates on electronic media and social media and  SMSs  would also be prohibited during this period.
          He said that Exit Poll by different news channels and newspapers had already been banned and the opinion poll would also come to an end 48 hours prior to the polling. Outsiders campaigning in favour of candidate would have to leave the constituency 48  hours before the polling and only the contesting candidate, election agents and voters of the concerned area would be allowed to remain present in the area, he added.
          Mr. Walgad said all arrangements have been made for the polling and   EVMs would be sent to the concerned polling stations on April 9. Also, the polling agents would reach the polling centres along with required material on the same day. He said that Mock poll would be conducted one hour before the scheduled hour of commencement of poll that is 6 am on April 10 in the presence of polling agents. However, in case polling agents were not present, the Polling Officer would start the Mock Poll, he added. He said that the polling would be held from 7 am to 6 pm on April 10.
          He said that efforts would be made to ensure that vote is cast by the last person in the queue. Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair conduct of Lok Sabha Elections in the State. As many as 97,600 licensed arms have so far been deposited in the State and 573 FIRs have been registered in different cases of unaccounted cash and illegal liquor. Apart from this, 465 Nakas have been laid in the State beside the Inter State Nakas. He said that the flying squads would also remain active during the last 48 hours of election process.
