The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has urged officers of the Income Tax Department to prepare authentic data on income, earnings and properties of the people and share it with the state government so that it could be incorporated in the State Resident Data Base (SRDB), survey for which will commence on May 1, 2017. This would help the government in planning better future strategies for development and welfare of people.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a conference “Pratyaksh Kar Samagam” organized by the Income Tax Department of North-West Region at Panchkula, near here, today.
The SRDB survey would begin on May 1 to compile a centralized database of the state's population to ensure effective implementation of different welfare programmes and facilitate preparation of future schemes.
Referring to the demand made by the Principal Chief Commissioner of I-Tax, North-West Region, Mr K.C. Jain, the Chief Minister said the Haryana Urban Development Authority had been asked to provide 10 acres of land for residential purposes and two acres for office complex of the Income Tax Department, in Gurugram. Besides, the state government would provide complete support in meeting the infrastructural requirement of the I-T Department anywhere in the state.
He also called upon I-T officers to make aware, encourage and inspire the tax payers to voluntarily pay their taxes. The people of Haryana have immensely contributed to the tax kitty of the nation as more than half of last financial year’s revenue collection was contributed by the state. The department had collected Rs 35,000 crore in 2016-17 out of which Haryana’s share stood at Rs 19,000 crore.
The Chief Minister said some people were still inclined towards evading taxes for, they were not sure if the government would honestly spend the taxes paid by them on development purposes. For the first times people have begun to think that the era has changed and the governments, both at Centre and in the state, are now working to root out corruption at all levels.
He also listed major initiatives taken by his government in this direction. About 93 per cent teachers are satisfied with the new transfer policy implemented by the government, he said.
The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North-West Region, Mr K.C. Jain, also spoke on the occasion. HAFED Chairman, Mr Harvinder Kalyan, MLA Mr Gian Chand Gupta, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Haryana, Mrs Sunita Puri, and other senior officers of I-T Department and district administration were also present.
