Eight artisans receive Handicraft Award

CHANDIGARH, JULY  12
 Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister  Vipul Goel today presented State Handicraft Award-2016 to eight artisans of the State.
          He said that the first award of Rs three lakh each in terracotta and wood and bamboo categories was given to Mr. Tulsi Ram, a resident of Faridabad and Mr. Surya Kant, a resident of Bahadurgarh, respectively. Similarly, consolation prizes of Rs 51,000 each has been given to Mrs. Jyoti from Bahadurgarh in painting category, Mr. Daya Ram from Faridabad in terracotta, Mrs. Sudesh from Panipat in embroidery and textile, Mr. Joginder from Bhiwani in Wood and Bamboo, Mr. Tulsi Dass from Rewari in metal crafts and Mrs. Meera Thakur from Panchkula in miscellaneous category.
          Congratulating the awardees, the Minister said that the State Government had notified the ‘Handicraft Award Scheme’ on April 16, 2016 for grant of awards to the artisans, craft persons and weavers of the state for promotion of handicraft activities. He said that the state is known for its special handicrafts such as brassware, jari jutti, wood craft, cloth paintings, hand fans, paper mackie, lakh bangles and jewellery, modha making, terracotta, stuffed toys, carpets, peedha and charpai making, durries and embroidery. There are more than 12,000 artisans in the state, who are outstanding in their work, he added.
MUISICAL EVENING: PRANAV Entertainers would be organizing a musical evening on July 15 at Tagore Theater, Sector 18, Chandigarh.
            Governor of Haryana, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki would be the Chief Guest and Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister, Mr Vipul Goel would preside over this function.
MC GEHLOT APPOINTED: The Haryana government has appointed Mr. Mehar Chand Gehlot, resident of village Sihol, District Palwal as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Haryana Livestock Development Board, Panchkula with immediate effect.
