CHANDIGARH SEPT 28
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today strongly advocated the cause of farmers saying that they should be given 50 per cent profit over and above the cost of production and in case this suggestion is accepted, there would be no need for seeking bonus every year.
Mr. Hooda was addressing a large number of farmers at his residence, here today, as they had come from all over the State   to thank him for announcing the county’s highest ever sugarcane prices. The number of farmers was so large that the felicitation function turned into a massive rally.
Mr. Hooda said that the Working Group Constituted by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, under his Chairmanship, had submitted his recommendations to the Central Government. The Working Group had suggested that to ensure sustainable income to the farmers, they should be given 50 per cent profit over and above the cost of Production. Mr. Hooda urged the farmers to give strength to him so that he could be able to further strengthen the farming community.
Mr Hooda announced that a massive rally to be attended by about 20 lakh people would be held in November and from there he would raise his voice to support those farmers of Haryana and Punjab who are being uprooted from Gujarat. This massive rally reflecting unity of the country and its strength will  raise a voice that we would not let these farmers adversely affected.

Mr. Hooda said that the previous INLD-BJP Government did not take any decision in the interest of the farming community whereas the present Congress Government took a number of decisions to safeguard the interests of the farmers and also implemented these decisions. He said that during the years 1999-2004, the rate of sugarcane was Rs. 110 per quintal but when the elections drew near in 2004, the then government increased the rate of surgarcane by only Rs. 7 per quintal, thus raising it to Rs. 117 per quintal from Rs. 110.
