Mrs. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario, the largest province of Canada will lead a one hundred member business delegation to Haryana on February 2 and 3, 2016.
This was disclosed by High Commissioner of Canada, Mr. Nadir Patel, when he called on Chief Minister Haryana Mr. Manohar Lal to offer help in setting up of Haryana’s first Horticulture University and to explore possibilities to set up joint ventures in the areas of developing smart cities, defence technology, education, micro irrigation and brackish water, skill development, renewable energy, health and industry sector, agriculture and museums.
Mr. Nadir Patel said that his visit today was in pursuance of the visit of Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi to Canada in April 2015. Mr. Manohar Lal assured him of all assistance in further strengthening the bilateral relations. “I look forward to joining hands with Canada for development of Haryana through all possible partnerships between governments, companies and educational institutions. We are particular looking for specialization in skill development of our youth so that they become more employable”, he added.
The Chief Minister said that State government’s decisions to open a medical college in each district and of setting up of three museums in the state after the Rakhigarhi finds offer new avenues for bilateral assistance from Canada.
It was informed in the meeting that Prime Minister has taken a huge initiative to generate one lakh MW renewable energy. Haryana is also looking forward to usher in a revolution in solar power in the days to come. It has set a target to generate 4000 MW of solar energy from private units including roof top plates.
Mr. Nadir Patel apprised the Chief Minister that Canadian pension fund have over 700 billion dollars and Haryana is one of the core areas of priority for Canadian investment. He said that Canada was interested in investment opportunities in Haryana offered by its promising new draft industrial policy, speeding up of western peripheral expressway and the focus on micro, small and medium enterprises.
He said that Canada is starting non-stop flight between Toronto and New Delhi from November three next which will help in further boosting mutual cooperation between Canada and India.
He said that Canada and India have a very strong relationship. The recent visit of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to Canada had paved the way to develop new bondings between the people and companies of the two nations. “We have mutual interest and always have a strong relationship with Indian Government. While India has a massive economy, 70 per cent of Canada’s GDP is driven by small and medium enterprises, he added.
Earlier, Chief Secretary, Mr. D.S. Dhesi said that recent visit of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to Canada has given a fillip to the Indo-Canadian relationship. This visit, after a long gap of 40 years, has set a road map for future. The new government of Haryana has set for itself a number of tasks and objectives in just seven months of its rule A large number of initiatives have been taken with the visionary approach of Chief Minster in the state. The government is also coming up with its new industrial policy focusing on MSMEs. This meeting would help in corporate relations between India and Canada in general and Canada and Haryana in particular, he added.
Those present in the meeting included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. R.K. Khullar, Counsel General for Canada Ms. Rajni Alexander, Consulate General of Canada Mr Gurbans Sobti and senior officers of the State government.
