CHANDIGARH, JUNE 30
The Haryana Health, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mr Anil Vij, has said that all formalities related to the War Memorial being set up in Ambala Cantonment in memory of the martyrs of the first Indian freedom struggle of 1857, will be completed by November 1, 2015.
This was disclosed by Mr Vij while presiding over a high level meeting on the project held here today. The meeting was attended by Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr R K Khullar, Director General, Information, Public Relations and Culture Affairs, Mr Abhilaksh Likhi, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Ambala, Mr Shakti
Singh, and Chief Architect, Mrs Sunita Monga.
The Sports Minister said that the war memorial would depict all important events of the 1857 revolution in sequence right up to the time of Bahadur Shah Zafar. It would have vital scenes from the lives of Rani Jhansi, Tantia Tope, Mangal Pandey and other freedom fighters.
The memorial would consist of one small pond, auditorium, library, audio visual museum, a food park and helipad along with other essential necessities. The demand for the construction of such memorial has been pending for the last 20 years but the previous Congress government didn’t work for it.
Since the war of Indian freedom started from Ambala, it is in the fitness of things that the memorial should be set up there. The BJP Government is committed to giving the martyrs due honour, Mr Vij added.
