Mohit 9th and Kartika 11th in shot put in Nairobi

CHANDIGARH, JULY 13  
Mohit and Kartikay were the best Indian bets so far in the boys shot put (5 kg) in the  IAAF World U18 Championships in Nairobi.   Both  Indians had qualified from their respective groups in the final. Kartikay had recorded 18.79 in qualifying round in Group A. However in the final he could register only 16.95 metres to finish 11th.
Mohit,  qualifying for final with 19.01 metres in preliminary rounds, obtained ninth place with  18,47 metres which he clicked in his third attempt. In his first attempt, Mohit measured 17.47 metres but dropped to 16.79 metres before rising to 18.47 metres in his third try.
Germany's Timo Northoff, won gold with 20.72 in the final round. a new U18 world-leading mark. He adds another gold to the one Selina Dantzler won in the girls' final yesterday.
 Mikhail Samuseu of Belarus finished second with 19.99m and the third place went to Jonathan De Lacey of South Africa who threw the iron ball to a distance of 19.93 metres.
Lizbeth Karoline Joseph  of India will appear in triple jump qualifying round for girls tomorrow. Ankita Chahal is another Indian who will figure in tomorow's schedule. She is placed in Heat 3 of 800 metres. Pooja Soren will run in Heat 1 of 110 metres hurdles (91.4 CM)  for boys and Abhishek Ubhe has been placed in Heat 3 in this event.
Other Indian athletes who were eliminated in qualifying rounds were:
800m Girls Heat 3: 6 Ankita Chahal 2:12.53.
110m hurdles Boys: Heat 1 8th Punga Soren 14.15. Heat 3: 5th Abhishek Ubhe  14.14.
Javelin Boys:  15th Avinash Yadav71.59m.
100m Boys:  5th Ch Palendra Kumar heat 3  10.81, Gershon Omubo NGR  10.81.
Avdesh Nagar  5th 3:57.26 Heat II  1500m
400m boys:  Manish  48.95 3rd
Hammer (5 kg) Group B  56th Nitesh Poonia 69.76(qualifier among 12 best shows) 70.00 or more. Group A:Damneet Singh 72.75   4th
Girls 400m: Heat 2 Dandi Jyothika Sri 56.57  6th.
