KU scholar to teach Hindi to American students

   A Research Scholar in the Department of English, Kurukshetra University ,Kurksehtra, Ms Isha Prashar,  has won the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) for the year 2013-14.
Isha will leave for Yale University, USA to teach Hindi to American students for a period of nine months beginning mid-August.
While stating this today, Professor Brajesh Sawhney, Fulbright Campus Representative at Kurukshetra University and a Fulbright alumnus said that the Department of English of the Kurukshetra University  has the unique distinction of producing five FLTA till date and all of them are girls. All these students got the opportunity not only to teach Hindi to American students but also to audit courses in American History, Culture, Civilization, Literature and Linguistics. They have also audited courses in the area of their research at US campus by registering with world renowned faculty,” informed Professor Sunita Siroha, chairperson, Dept. of English.
He said that the FLTA is awarded on the basis of a national competition organized by United States India Educational Foundation in India (USIEF) New Delhi and Council of International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) Washington DC, the United States of America. This year only nine applicants from all over India could qualify out of the hundreds who had applied for FLTA.
Under the Fulbright Program, competitively selected U.S. citizens  become eligible for scholarships to study, conduct research, or exercise their talents abroad and citizens of other countries qualify to do the same in the United States.  The Fulbright Program is one of the most prestigious awards programs worldwide, operating in over 155 countries.
