Nominations for teachers’ awards invited

The Haryana Government has invited nominations for the State Awards to the teachers for the year 2012. The awards would be conferred on Teachers’ Day which is celebrated in the country on September 5 every year.
While stating this today, Haryana Education Minister Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal said that State Awards were awarded by the Government every year to teachers in recognition of their significant performance and to honour them for their contribution to the country and the community.
Detailing about the eligibility, Mrs. Bhukkal said that the categories of teachers eligible for nominations would be primary teachers who were teaching upto class V and secondary teachers who were teaching classes VI to XII. She said that teachers with atleast fifteen years of regular class teaching experience and Headmasters or Principals with twenty years of regular teaching experiences as on December 31, 2012 would be eligible for sending nominations.
She said that for teachers engaged in inclusive education, the regular class room teaching experience would be reduced from fifteen years to ten years of regular service and in case of Headmasters and Principals from twenty years to fifteen years.
She made it clear that the Educational Administrators including Director and staff of State Council of Educational Research and Training, (SCERT) District Education Officers (DEOs), District Elementary Education Officers, Principals, District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and staff of DIETs, Deputy DEOs, Block Education Officers (BEOs) and other concerned education officers would not be eligible to apply for these awards.
She said that District Level Committee would examine the cases of various categories as per criteria and if there were cases scoring more than 70 per cent, then their names could be recommended by the committee to the State Level Committee. The District level Committee would be headed by District Education Officer concerned. Other members would be Principal DIET, Principal of a Senior Secondary School and Principal of Navodaya Vidyalaya. The recommendations of the District Level Committees would be scrutinized by the State Level Committee chaired by Director, Secondary Education. The State Level Committee would finalise the names for the award. The other members of the State Level Committee would be Additional or Joint Director (Administration), Director SCERT and one educationalist to be decided by the Chairman.
The Minister said that the State Level Committee would examine all recommendations of the districts and could call for additional information, if required. The Committee would also conduct a formal class-room teaching evaluation of the short listed teachers. Committee could even ask SCERT, Gurgaon to conduct a learning level evaluation of the children being taught by the short listed teachers.
The Minister said that the main consideration for awards would be those teachers who show exceptional academic efficiency, quality of teaching, professional competence, good conduct and team spirit, engagement with the local community, utilize innovative teaching methods and command respect in the community.
She said that the recommendations of the District Level Committee should reach the Directorate upto July 31, 2013 positively through special messenger. Clarifications, if required, could be sought from Directorate of Secondary Education, she added.
