Rs 28.98 cr compensation to Kaithal farmers

CHANDIGARH, MAY 21
The Haryana Government has approved more than Rs 28.98 crore as compensation to farmers in district Kaithal for damage to cotton crop due to pest attack and hail.
        While stating this here today, Finance and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, said that the a total compensation of Rs 28,98,97,000 for Kharif season-2015 included Rs 28.45 crore for crop damaged due to pest attack and Rs 53.97 lakh for damage due to hail.
        He said that special girdawari was conducted for assessment of losses due to crop damage caused by White fly and leaf curl virus attack and hail in Kharif season-2015. Acting on the reports of Deputy Commissioners of Sirsa, Hisar, Jind, Fatehabad and Bhiwani,he said Rs 967,01,29,000 were approved as compensation to farmers in these districts on March 11, 2016.
        He said that Deputy Commissioner, Kaithal, had now submitted the report regarding damage to cotton crop due to White fly and to paddy due to hail in 2015. No proposal regarding such damage to crops had been received from Deputy Commissioner, Kaithal, before this, he added.
        Giving details about the extent of damage to cotton crop due to White fly in district Kaithal, the Finance Minister said that 25 to 33 per cent crop had been damaged in an area of seven acre, 33 to 50 per cent in 107 acre, 50 to 75 per cent in 11,972 acre and above 75 per cent in 14,164 acre.
        He said that in tehsil Kalayat, 25 to 33 per cent cotton crop had been damaged in an area of seven acre, 33 to 50 per cent in 107 acre, 50 to 75 per cent in 2,204 acre and above 75 per cent in 8,505 acre. In tehsil Pundri, 50 to 75 per cent crop was damaged in an area of 234 acre. In tehsil Kaithal, 50 to 75 per cent crop was damaged in an area of 1,370 acre and above 75 per cent in 454 acre. Similarly, in sub-tehsil Rajound, 50 to 75 per cent crop was damaged in an area of 8,164 acre and above 75 per cent in 5,205 acre.
        The Minister said that in sub-tehsil Rajound, 25 to 33 per cent of paddy had been damaged in an area of 771 acre.
