Manish Grover visits Australian Sugar Industry

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 25
 Haryana Minister of State for Cooperation, Mr. Manish Kumar Grover today visited the Sugar Research Australia which works primarily for the Australian Sugar Industry - both farmers and millers for providing them with the latest and best cane varieties which have high sugar content and are mainly disease resistant.
        Mr. Grover is leading a seven member team to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia to discuss latest sugarcane breeding practices and latest technological innovations in the sugar industry to improve the technical performance of the Cooperative and HAFED Sugar Mills.
          The Minister discussed that how similar research can be carried out in Haryana to provide the best sugarcane varieties to the farmers of Haryana so that they can get more Ratoons out of their cane plants with more sugar content and varieties which are more disease resistant.
          Senior officers of the institute took the delegation around the Institute to show them their latest world class laboratories. The institute imports cane plants from around the world to conduct research and are in the process of developing Genetically Modified (GM) plants with high sugar content and disease resistant.
