The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has announced that no interest would be charged on the compensation money paid back by such farmers as would be returned their land acquired for the Dadupur Nalvi Canal following the state government decision to de-notify it.
He was interacting with a delegation of farmers led by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Krishan Kumar, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Nayab Singh, who had come to thank him for the decision to de-notify the canal, here today.
“Farmers’ interest is above everything and under no circumstances, flood-like situation would be allowed to arise in Shahabad-Dadupur Nalvi area,” Mr Manohar Lal said. After a long study that it has been found that Dadupur Nalvi Canal is not in the interest of farmers of the state; hence the decision to de-notify it.
As many as 900 acres of land had been acquired for the canal and compensation at the rate of Rs 6 lakh per acre had been given, he said. The land returned would be utilised for setting up schools, hospitals and other development works. It would also be used by the Irrigation and Forests Departments for plantation.
The Chief Minister said irrigation could not take place in the area due to non-construction of rajwahas and minors, and the water coming from Khadri and Ghad areas during the monsoon had become the reason for floods in the area.
Irrigation was done on the land by lifting water from the canal through engines, but study done in 2017 revealed that irrigation was done on only 250 acres, and only Rs 1,600 was received as revenue. Even the ground water recharging has not been taking place due to this canal.
Mr. Manohar Lal gave the assurance that after returning the land, a scheme would be prepared to use water of Chetan Nalah, Rakshi Nalah, Saraswati River and Sadhaura River for irrigation purposes by installing a bigger pipeline. Nine places from Kalka to Kalesar had been identified where small dams would be constructed and water would be utilised for irrigation and other requirements.
The Chief Minister said the Opposition had been politicising the Dadupur Nalvi issue and that they had no feeling for the farmers. During the three-year tenure of the present state government, water has been provided to tail-ends at over 300 places in Hisar, Bhiwani, Dadri, Mahendragarh and Narnaul where water never reached during the last 30 years.
Conceding the demand made by the farmers, the Chief Minister announced the decision to provide land for establishing Jat Bhavan in Shahabad.
The Education Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr. Krishan Kumar, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Nayab Singh, also spoke on this occasion. Those present included Minister of State for Cooperation, Mr. Manish Kumar Grover, and other dignitaries.
