Sugarcane price hiked by Rs 10 per quintal

CHANDIGARH, OCT 25
In yet another farmer-friendly decision, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, today announced a hike of Rs 10 per quintal in the State Advisory Price (SAP) of sugarcane which will benefit the farmers to the tune of Rs 86 crore. The state government is already paying the highest price of sugarcane to the farmers. 
          He made this and other announcements while speaking on the concluding day of winter session of the Vidhan Sabha here today.
          The Chief Minister said in view of the beginning of the wheat sowing season, supply of electricity for agriculture sector would be increased from the existing eight hours to 10 hours per day in the state up to 
November 15, 2017.
          Mr Manohar Lal thanked the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, for hiking the MSP of wheat by Rs 10 per quintal and said this decision of Central Government would immensely benefit the farmers in the country. The hike in MSP of wheat reflects the visionary thinking of the Prime Minister, he added.

          The Chief Minister also announced the decision to upgrade Ladwa Tehsil to the level of sub-division. Following the resolution passed by the Gram Panchayats, Mr Manohar Lal said the state government had renamed Mustafabad village in district Yamunanagar as Saraswati Nagar, village Ganda in Fatehabad as Ajit Nagar, and village Kinnar in Hisar as Gaibipur.
             Similarly, village Chamar Khera in Hisar would be renamed as Sunder Khera, Garhi Sampla in Rohtak as Ch. Chottu Ram Nagar, and Panjokhra as Panjokhra Sahib. The state has forwarded a proposal to this effect to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, he added.

CRUSHING SESSION: Meanwhile, Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar said that all cooperative sugar mills in the state would start crushing from November 1, 2017, which  is 21 days advance of current crushing season. The capacity of sugar mills Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat would be raised to 3500 tonnes, 5000 tonnes and 2200 tonnes per day from existing 2200 tonnes, 1800 tonnes and 1600 tonnes per day respectively.
          Mr Dhankar was replying on a calling attention motion moved by opposition members on price of sugarcane on the concluding day of winter session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.
          The Minister apprised the House that Haryana is the first state where all the payment of sugarcane had been released to farmers. The State is giving highest price of cane to the farmers. He assured the House that price of sugarcane in the state would be highest during the period of BJP government. The cane growers were satisfied with the government during its three years tenure and area under sugarcane cultivation is being increased every year. This was 0.93 hectares in year 2014-15 which has been increased to one lakh hectares in 2015-16 and 1.73 lakh hectares in 2016-17. The production of sugarcane in year 2014-15 was seven crore quintal and 8.22 crore quintal in 2015-16. This year, 11.20 crore production is expected, he added. 

          Mr Dhankar said that next meeting of Sugarcane Control Board scheduled to be held on December 15, 2017. All the mills are ready for crushing season and every stick of cane would be crushed. Additional weight scales would be set up outside mills or other places, if required. The state government would not allow transportation of sugarcane to other states in any circumstances. 
          He informed that crushing in cooperative sugar mill Rohtak, Palwal and Karnal would commence from October 31November 3 andNovember 7 respectively.   The sugarmills have been asked to adopt latest techniques to produce organic products.
