Decks have been cleared for the setting up of a centre of Software Technology Park of India (STPI) in Panchkula with the Haryana Government deciding to transfer land measuring 8049.71 square meter to STPI, Noida for the specific purpose of setting up of STPI centre at Panchkula. The land would be given free of cost/lease hold basis for 99 years at the rate of Re. one per year.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will also be signed between HARTRON and STPI, Noida for this purpose.
A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of State Cabinet held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal here today.
Panchkula has potential to attract IT due to proximity of Technical Institutions and Universities, presence of software firms in Tricity, Chandigarh being made a smart city, good law and order scenario, healthy climate and high accessibility due to proximity of international airport, national highway and railways passing through Panchkula.
The STPI will create IT office space, high speed data connectivity, data centre and other amenities required for export of software and services. The STPI Incubation facility would include STPI Office Premises, Network Operation Centre, Finishing School, Plug-n-Play facility Incubation and Raw Incubation Space. STPI - Incubation center will be a centralized facility for the Startups and will ensure the relevant ecosystem to be available for the budding startup right from mentoring to funding. The startup will have access to the state of the art Infrastructure with necessary support service.
This piece of land was purchased from HSIIDC in Sector 22, IT Park, Panchkula at a cost of about Rs 14.91 crore.
Haryana Government has under-taken several initiatives in providing Digital Infrastructure as a Utility to Every Citizen, Governance and Services on Demand and Digital Empowerment of Citizens. At present almost all major IT, IT enabled and related companies including multinational and Indian IT corporates have established their units in the State and many more are in the pipeline. The IT-BPM industry contribution to Haryana economy is substantial as almost 9.4 per cent of state GDP and 54 per cent of Haryana exports is contributed by these units. The tax contribution is nearly Rs. 3,000 crores.
The IT industry employs 2.5-3 lakh people directly and 8-9 lakh persons indirectly. Over 450 companies are operating in BPO sector and Gurugram is one of the World BPO hubs. It employs 5 per cent of total worldwide BPO employees and 13 per cent of total Indian BPO employees. Looking at the present scenario of growth of IT and IT enabled service industry, it has been decided to project Panchkula region as a second IT hub of Haryana State after Gurugram. The first step towards this is to establish substantial IT incubation space at Panchkula through the STPI.
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an Autonomous Society under the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology with an objective to promote Software Exports from the country. STPI operates two Central government schemes that is Software Technology Park (STP) and Electronics Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) scheme and provides incubation and data communication facilities under one umbrella to facility to IT units to facilitative IT exports activity.
